The bus, that crashed in Feketic, near the village of Mali Idjos, at around 09:40 hours CET, carried "around 50 tourists" - half of them aged between 13 and 16 - and had three drivers.

The bus was traveling from Greece to Poland.

The injured passengers are receiving medical care in the towns of Vrbas, Novi Sad, and Subotica.

Several ambulances and vehicles of the Interior Ministry's Emergency Situations Sector have been dispatched to the scene.

Later on Tuesday, representatives of the Poznan-based Polish tourist agency who organized the trip, said that the 50-year-old victim was one of the drivers, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident.

They also claim that "sharp objects scattered on the road most likely" caused the bus to overturn.

According to the agency, the bus had a punctured front right tire - and could not have malfunctioned otherwise, because it was "only two years old, had an experienced driver behind the wheel, and had undergone vehicle inspection."
