NATO member-states to be sued for 1999 attack on Serbia
A legal team is being put together in order to file lawsuits against NATO countries that took part in the 1999 bombing of Serbia.

Sputnik is reporting that the forming of the team has been proposed by the Serbian Royal Academy and is planned to bring together the best lawyers from Serbia, but also from EU states, Russia, China, and India. The team of experts will be led by Srdjan Aleksic, a well known Nis-based lawyer.
"We will sue NATO member-states, participants in the 1999 aggression on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The 20 countries that directly or indirectly took part in the aggression. The lawsuits will be filed against individual member-states of the alliance," Aleksic explained for Sputnik.
The legal process will not take place before the International Court of Justice - but in each of the sued countries, individually.
"We consider their courts to have jurisdiction, because these countries have violated, above all, Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, that prohibits aggression against any country. NATO has violated Articles 5 and 6 of its own statute, because it is a defensive, not an offensive alliance. International law has been breached, above all those conventions prohibiting aggression and use of force against a sovereign country," he continued.
The legal team will put together nearly 20 cases backed by firm material evidence, collected from medical documents that indicate a causal relationship between NATO's use of (depleted) uranium ammunition, and the increased number of cancer cases in Serbia.
"Between 10 and 15 tons of uranium have been dropped on the territory of then Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro). The number of those ill with cancer is alarming. 2.5 percent of Serbia's population is diagnosed with malignant diseases each year, i.e., 33,000 people. One child is diagnosed every day. Since 1999, the number of cancer patients has grown five times. The population is falling ill on a mass scale, especially in southern Serbia and in Kosovo and Metohija," Aleksic said.
He stressed that during the aggression, so-called hazard facilities - chemical and petrochemical industry sites - have also been targeted, although this is prohibited by international law of war.
"Our prominent scientists, doctors, oncologists - above all Dr. Danica Grujicic and toxicologist Radomir Kovacevic, who have been researching this for years - will take part in preparing the lawsuits. The fact that a court in Italy found the state guilty for sending their Carabinieri to Kosovo and Metohija, to locations attacked with depleted uranium, speaks in favor of the veracity of our claim. 45 soldiers got cancer, and Italy has been paying big damages for this. Between EUR 200,000 and 1.2 million per soldier. Our claim is based precisely on this - that even the soldiers who took part in the aggression have gotten sick, and that their countries have been paying damages because of this. There is a soldier in Great Britain who was in contact with uranium in Serbia, and there is a ruling ordering Britain to pay damages to him," says Aleksic.
The lawsuits will also cover the consequences of NATO's use of cluster bombs, that resulted in the deaths of a great number of people, and the bombing of chemical and petrochemical facilities, that resulted in large oil and gasoline spills.
According to Aleksic, "it is very important to study and prepare the lawsuits well" - because some others filed against NATO members have been thrown out in the meantime.
Gunvald,
What your are suggesting is akin to ISIS suing Russia and the U.S. for bombing them.
(EU Citizen, 10 June 2017 02:17)
Oh boy, you are so misinformed... Serbia actually fought against radical Islamic wings in Bosnia and so called Kosovo, both Bosnia and Kosovo are known of having training grounds for sending soldiers to fight for ISIS...As a matter of fact, Serbia fought against Islamic invasions for more than 7 centuries... You won't see a single Serb fighting on the side of ISIS, but you'll most certainly see people from Bosnia and Kosovo, in fact, you can google and find videos of them treating to Serbia and other people on Balkans. The whole point was to destabilize and break Yugoslavia, and siege economic resources from it, making their citizens slaves to the western corporations, and loose a potential Russian ally in the process. What's the best way to do that ? Turn everyone against the strongest country, against Serbia, make them look evil, and boom, you have it... Of course, I'm not defending my country, we all are bastards, and the reason why this happened to all our ex-yu countries is because we had such a bad leadership, that couldn't resist being corrupted, none of them were caring for their people, non Serbian, or Bosnian, or Croatian politicians... Kosovo is whole another story, they speak different language, but even their, especially younger population, is starting to get sick and tired of their, also corrupted politicians...

I came to your site looking for more information about the lead lawyer so that I can contact him. I have already attempted to contact two of the "scientific" members of his team. They may have legitimate concerns about bombing campaign targets, but the picture that you show has nothing to do with depleted uranium . Depleted Uranium penetrators, 300 gram 16mm diameter pointed cylinders completely enclosed within a 7mm thick aluminum outer jacket fired by the A-10 "Warthog" aircraft's 30mm gun were only fired at 10 targets in Serbia. See the comprehensive 300 plus page report by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) international scientific field team Appendix N Page 168 at [link] . UNEP teams also produced comparable reports for Kosovo, where I got the description of the penetrator, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Teams not only examined sites provided by NATO with target coordinates, but also sites designated by the FRY

It is now time for the western Europe to pay for the criminal act against Yugoslavia and Serbia.
(Gunvald Matheussen, 9 June 2017 22:35)
Criminal acts are committed by people, dear and "western Europe" is not a person so it's not going to pay anything regardless of how many years it took you to write that lol
(icj1, 10 June 2017 05:24)
It's funny though how many of you who want to blame Serbia for everything, from your dirty bathrooms to your inability to find a good job tend to want to blame all Serbs as if ethnicity is responsible for negative events. But, as you say "criminal acts are committed by people". If that's so, stop wasting your breath blaming Serbia for all of your personal failings.
(Raisin Scone, 13 June 2017 11:50)
First of all, dirty bathrooms or inability to find a good job are not a criminal act. So your comment is totally unrelated to what I and Gunvald Matheussen were discussing.
Second, I have never blamed "Serbia for all of my personal failings". So, it's not clear what you're talking about!
(icj1, 13 June 2017 14:50)

sue
… Yes, but remember people can be controlled by spirits. One has to , through prayer, forgive. ....and also seek justice. As Job forgave his kinsmen who "stood afar off" during his tribulation, bit who dined with him after Gd lifted him up, each giving him a piece of money and an earring of gold. Job forgave them! andchrist said Love them that hate you!

An organisation I supported with all my heart and beliefe, NATO, turned into a tool in the hands of Hawks to achieve their geopolitical goals, after the breakdown of the Soviet Union. This I do not support anymore. It is now time for the western Europe to pay for the criminal act against Yugoslavia and Serbia. clearly if Milosevic was exonerated for the 1999 conflict, then my friends Serbia is innocent from any wrong doing, as Slobo was the head of the country, and if he was innocent, then the country is innocent...
(Nikola Novakovic, 9 June 2017 15:13)
Congratulations dear for convincing yourself that the country is innocent, since nobody accused Serbia of committing war crimes or crimes against humanity. Just because some members of Serbia's armed forces committed those crimes, does not mean that Serbia as a country is guilty.
(icj1, 9 June 2017 18:34)
As an Englishman I really hope that both Bill Clinton and Tony Blair are brought before a court to answer for their involvement in the illegal bombing. Hopefully then people will begin to realise that it wasn't the British people who initiated the bombing but one evil, despotic megalomaniac (Blair). He acted outside of international law and NATO's own set of rules. He ignored vehement criticism in the UK parliament and acted without any mandate from the people of the UK. At the very least a referendum should have been held before any action was considered. Had that been the case, I guarantee that the UK public would have voted overwhelmingly against the bombing. It may also have made them realise sooner that the media and the government in the UK were running a hugely detrimental propaganda campaign in order to "justify" the action. The irony of it all, in my opinion, is that the Serbian government them went on to pay Blair to come and advise the government. That Blair would dare set foot in Belgrade, let alone take money for giving advice, just shows what a heartless, cold blooded disgusting person he really is. The sooner he stands trial, the sooner the real truth about him will emerge. Don't even get me started on Clinton.....either one of them!

NATO are the war criminals, Serbia never attacked a sovereign country, it attacked terrorists inside Serbia... Therefore we seek justice, we seek compensation for the evil inflicted upon Serbia from NATO, the dogs of war...
Now NATO must pay the price for their evil, for their support of a terrorist organisation which currently has links to ISIS..
Serbia will have the last laugh period...!

Not applying Justice is playing Russian Roulette if you get the drift genius. The bombing of Yugoslavia was done without UN consent and against NATO's own charter. We are heading into WW-III for exactly those reasons, remember the failure of the League of Nations and the Treaty of Versailles which led to two world wars.

Ukraine has desided to commit suiside and it has nothing to do with the Serbs. Most of them went home for the time beig because it's not an active time in Donbass. Every day Kiev releases idiotic laws that harm his country more than 1000000 Serbs can do.

In the verdict against Sjesel -whom I despise- it was concluded by the court that the state of war in Yugoslavia was legal due to illegal secession. Furthermore, the breakup of Yugoslavia was not only against the Yugoslav constitution but also against the international law on federations. Nevertheless, war crimes were committed during that war. By all parties. The NATO intervention however is something different because it came from outside the territory of Yugoslavia and then international law and treaties come into play. The bombing of YU was not sanctioned by the UNSC and was against NATO regulations.
Nevertheless, nothing will come out of it because TPTB will have nothing of it. Good to try though.

Chetniks need to pay compensation to the Bosnian mothers for the Srebrenica genocide. Poor Serbs kill and maim across the Balkans and then they want to sue...laughable.
(Chaos AD, 8 June 2017 13:45)
Crotia, Slovenia,Bosnia, and Kosova should sue serbia for billions for the damage and war crimes serbs have commited. Sounds more realistic to be honest

Ukraine has desided to commit suiside and it has nothing to do with the Serbs. Most of them went home for the time beig because it's not an active time in Donbass. Every day Kiev releases idiotic laws that harm his country more than 1000000 Serbs can do.

"45 soldiers got cancer, and Italy has been paying big damages for this"
Can anyone provide more information? There were indeed Italian soldiers who got Hodgkin's and Thyroid cancer. This was initially suspected to be because of exposure to depleted uranium in Kosovo but was later found to be nothing to do with it.
(Dwight, 8 June 2017 15:57)
I don't how much all of this will cost but if I were a Serbian tax payer I would want to know why money is being spent on a fool's errand. That's not to say that there is no merit in what the Serbian Academy is saying but they above all others must know that the chance of success is zero. They may as well play roulette and put all their money on number 37.
(ned taylor, 8 June 2017 16:48)
I can't wait☺.It will be shown a lot of footages about the ethnic cleansing in former Yugoslavia...and at the end "should civilised Europe allow a country to terrorise "its own" people?

Youre not very smart to be honest lol

"NATO member-states to be sued"
Really??
So why has it taken 17 years to start this?
The legal process will take place in each of the countries, individually??
Good Luck!!
I think the attempt to extradite Haradinaj in France proved that you can never receive justice with the EU & NATO member states.

Not applying Justice is playing Russian Roulette
(Jugoslavija, 8 June 2017 19:44)
Exactly... which is why the UN sent to jail members of Serbia's armed forces who committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Kosovo.

(Jugoslavija, 8 June 2017 19:44)
NATO is in the wrong... clearly if Milosevic was exonerated for the 1999 conflict, then my friends Serbia is innocent from any wrong doing, as Slobo was the head of the country, and if he was innocent, then the country is innocent...

Include Bill Clinton, Tony Blair and the majority of their cabinet members in these cases. In my opinion, the worst criminals their countries ever produced. Rank up there with Hitler, Pavelic, Stalin, Mao & Broz!!!!!

This is waaay past due! I hope there's no statute of limitations that will come into effect, but then I believe there's no statute of limitation on murder.
(Joanna, 8 June 2017 23:06)

This I salute. For many years I have been thinking about this event, and I am preparing a text for a Norwegian newspaper about the shameful attack on Yugoslavia. By the way, if Yugoslavia was together now it would be one of the strongest nations in the european union. Today we see Slovenia and Croatia act like newborn puppies without eyes inside the union.
Fullfill this, sue all agressors and bring out the truth about NATO agression and the consequenses.

Congratulations dear for convincing yourself that the country is innocent, since nobody accused Serbia of committing war crimes or crimes against humanity. Just because some members of Serbia's armed forces committed those crimes, does not mean that Serbia as a country is guilty.

Gunvald,
What your are suggesting is akin to ISIS suing Russia and the U.S. for bombing them.
