The EU also "particularly pointed out that this had to be done with the consent of all communities in Kosovo," Beta reported, citing a statement by European Commission spokesperson Maja Kocijancic.

Kocijancic added that the EU was "closely monitoring the issue of the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force and that it had to be done in the way that would include everyone within a multi-ethnic process that would secure the consent of all the communities in Kosovo."

Belgrade strongly opposes the creation of an army in Kosovo, and sees the lack of support from the West for the idea as its "victory", while Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, who this week launched the initiative, said the "transformation" would go ahead despite the objections.
