U.S. citizens advised of fake cops in Belgrade
"U.S. citizens are advised to be wary of unannounced visits by the police to their homes, and contact local police to report suspicious activity," the notice said, adding that in Belgrade, "two white males in police uniforms with fluorescent strips" attempted to gain access to an apartment building by demanding entry via the intercom system."The men did not present any identification and later departed the area. Last week two individuals were arrested for more than a dozen home invasions in the Vracar, Palilula, and Zvezdara municipalities. Police also arrested three suspects for using police credentials to gain access to residences in the Barajevo suburb of Belgrade."
Belgrade-based daily Blic, meanwhile, writes that the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) said the police are working on these cases, having arrested several persons suspected of impersonating police officers in order to burglar or attempt to burglar homes of foreign citizens.
