Vucic today announced "a meeting with the Albanian side with the mediation of Brussels (EU) as early as next week."

"We are ready for dialogue. We must overcome this situation by being responsible and smart. What has been agreed in Brussels should be respected, (Kosovo police special unit) ROSU should not be able to enter northern Kosovo," Vucic said.

He added that he "felt stupid" for having to "prove to the Serbs that we want peace," and added:

"I don't understand the Albanians' desire for saber-rattling."

The prime minister said that Stoltenberg, "because of his father and his childhood" now "understands the situation in Serbia excellently," and, "is not our enemy."

"We spoke about the same things as with Angela Merkel. I explained the agreements from Brussels, we considered the situation in a rational manner," Vucic said.

They also spoke about the Serb Republic (RS), Vucic revealed, and said Serbia would not join sanctions imposed by the United States on the president of the Serb entity in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik.

Vucic also said he informed Merkel about "everything Serbia is doing regarding the solving of the migrant crisis," and that he "received her support for the solving the problem of migrants in Serbia."

"She is fighting for Europe's survival, we need the approach of a strong leader trusted by everyone," said Vucic.

He also stressed that "as far as the economy's concerned" he "saw no problems, if peace and stability are preserved."

"I hope the Balkans won't be left on the sidelines," said Vucic.

High level meeting

EU foreign policy and security chief Federica Mogherini on Thursday invited Belgrade and Pristina to a high-level meeting in Brussels on January 24 as part of the EU-facilitated dialogue.

"The developments over the past days underline the need for increased commitment and engagement by the two sides through the Dialogue," the European External Action Service said in a statement published on its website.
