Oh Boohoo a couple Serbs have been beaten up in the last decade in Croatia. How you talk you would think Croatia is the only country in the world which has violence on its streets. Repeating Thomasio point a single criminal act does not exemplify how a nation behaves. Croatians have shown great restraint to have only allowed a couple incidents occurred to returning Serbs considering what those Serbs did to their country only under 20 years ago.

It is surprising how many Serbs feel safe enough to come back to Croatia bearing in mind how much crap key board warriors talk about Croatia. The fact that the majority of Serbs who have returned remain in Croatia and do not go back to Serbia demonstrates that Croatia is a safer and better place to live in than Serbia.

How about you tell us by which law they had the right to separate.
(Peggy, 8 August 2012 14:36)

The Yugoslav Constitution allowed every republic to vote for independence. You must be getting mixed up with the autonomous regions to think Croatia had no right to gain independence. Either way Croatia held a democratic referendum on independence and 93.24% of the voters voted yes.

Actually by arming themselves against the country they lived in turned them into traitors and treason is punishable by death.

Thomasio,

Your lack of ability to see things clearly through your distorted lenses is only of one your weak points, while the penchant hate you hold within you against Serbs is the other. Keep looking at the wine glass in one direction only.

Wow, what an amazing coincidence-so,each of those incidents reported in the Croatian (& I am certain) Serb media happened to be your relatives? What are the odds of that? So, in other words, when crime and despicable acts occur, that characterizes a nation? And you're telling me there are no Serbs in Croatia, native or from Serbia proper as tourists who experience positive or acceptable treatment? In a country that hosts 11M+ tourists per year?Seriously? And yet, you've left your initial posting falsehoods of lack of Serb rights unanswered, & gone looking for the acts of intolerance. Are there any such things that occur in Serbia proper to it's minorities? Let's be completely honest:few give a rat's a** what Serbs think or say, mostly because their recent decades of actions speak quite clearly. You're in an uphill battle to repair all those actions, & are losing all of them. The general Serb lack of objectivity is a major hinderenace to Serbia's progress-there are voices in Serbia that see this, but they are marginalized. How is it possible the Serbs have all the facts right, and the Croatians have them so wrong? It should be cause to stop and think, shouldn't it. On the EU, it is far from a bed of roses, but it's the only club in town for now, & Serbia's not likely to join it anytime soon. History is written by the winners, while losers falsify it-it worked when Serbs ran YU, but that game & chapter is over.

No country in the world have allowed an enemy population to return to their country after betraying them in war, rebuild their homes, places of worship and sponsor the rebuilding of other forms of cultural identity. Except Croatia. Serbs should be very happy with their current situation in Croatia and be great full our stupid government gave them amnesty.

If the Serb's in Croatia chose to defend Croatia, "their" country for the last 300 years, instead of supporting the aggressors from Belgrade than the war would've lasted only 6 months. Belgrade was able to fight in Croatia for 5 years because her army was stationed in areas where the civilian population was committing treason against "their" own country and collaborating with the occupiers.

1991-1992 was the time the Serbian civilian population showed their true colours. When 180000 Croatian's were kicked out of their home's because they were not loyal to the Belgrade backed aggressors any Serb who wanted to prove their loyalty to "their" country for the last 300 years should have moved to Croat controlled areas. 99.99% of Serbs did not, the men chose to fight for a foreign country, the women decided to support their husbands and work on the home front and the children were taught their capital is Belgrade not Zagreb. The Serb's showed where their true loyalties laid and got what they deserved in 1995.

If there was a genocide against Serbs than how come after Storm Serbs were still the biggest minority in Croatia?

Bravo to the brave Croatia men and women who defended their homes, family and country against the Serb aggression and hegemony. Since Croatia's esteemed President and Serb representatives in Croatia both believe that all victims of the Serb Aggression should be commemorated equally during sacred celebrations and commemorations like Operation Storm, I propose that on their behalf a petition is initiated to commemorate all victims of Europe's ‘D’ Day. Because really there would be no D Day or Operation Storm if there were no aggressors; makes sense in an ICTY Hague justice sort of way??

Jasenovac was genocide, this is ethnic cleansing. Still a war crime, but mislabeled for sure. The survival of the Serb people was never at risk, just as Bosnians and Albanians weren't. Does no one study history anymore?

It's there moment, let them celebrate like they did in 1940. Serbs should whine less and build more, while always making sure that their children and their children's children never forget what was perpetrated. The celebration, than, is a good thing, a necessary reminder. They couldn't keep what the Germans gave them in the '40's, they will not what NATO gave them in the '90's. It took over 500 years to vanquish the Turk, almost 800 for the Reconquista. All in good time.

Don't worry loser Slovenia is trying to block Croatia again entry in to the dead beat EU. Because Croatia is demanding 270 million euros of Croatian private depositors money from the Slovenian government owned Ljubananska bank. The Slovenian government excuse is that Ljubanska bank dose not exist any more. Because the Slovenian government changed the name to "Nova Ljubanska bank" it is a new entity and it dose not own any one lol pathetic Slovenia remind of Serbia both SSnakes. Now don't get to excited Serbs it owns money to Serb depositors also and other ex Yugos. Any way the majority of the eligible Croatian voters 70% didn't vote or voted against joining the EU only 30% voted yes. The short of it is Croatia and depositors are taking loser Slovenia to court and it don't look good for Slovenia. Just like Croatia is taking Serbia for all its thievery and war mongering destruction. Danka U.S. and Germany Croatians true friends and allies. Good news Croatian tourism up 5% and overnight stays up 15%. On a very excellent numbers from last year it will add well over a billion more euros to Croatian budget.

What of the Serb language schools in say Vukovar? And how are Serb churches suppressed in Croatia? Where? Harassment? Again, where? And how are minority rights for Croats treated in Serbia proper? Serbs in Croatia, like Croats in Serbia are a minority. What of your beloved Republika Srpska? Do you have any objectivity in your statements? Your distance from reality is disturbing; I have many Serb friends on a professional level in Serbia, and, they do not speak in these terms, but in fact respect, enjoy, and travel to Croatia ongoingly, and love to do so. Of course they should be banned from the EU. They should also be divided and put under protectorate, with a ban on having the army for the next 100 years.

Unfortunately, current geo-political situation and the West's struggle for total economic domination, favours compliant and sycophantic Balkan governments. Since Serbia is the only state in the Balkans that is refusing to co-operate with this plan, is insisting on maintaining military neutrality (and refusing to join NATO) it is easy to understand why Serbia is being attacked from all sides and the people who attempted to exterminate Serbs allowed to mouth off any which way they can.

It's all a part of political pressure on Serbia.

What are your thoughts on how each crimes were finally judged? Was justice served in either case? Croatia should not be allowed to join, until:

i) The right of return and properties are addressed
ii) The Constitution, amended to reflect the reality, which is Serbs are a constituent people there, and their rights should be respected (as was the case prior to 1991).
iii) Serbian cultural/language and freedom of association, autonomy in areas where they are over/above majority. While also be free to practise their language, religion and culture without prejudice, harrassment and oppression in the entire territory of Croatia.

Those three items, are just the beginning, before any attempts at joining the EU are considered.

It's all a part of political pressure on Serbia.

Willi, the EU Albanian spokesman, please stop your daily hate drivel towards Serbs. Serbians were killed and ethnically cleansed from their ancestral homes in Croatia during operation storm. There is way around it, no matter who fired the first round. Palma is correct in this case, there exist two sets of rules for EU membership, one for Serbia, and one for Germany's darling, Croatia. BTW, when will the Albanians in Kosovo face up to the ethnic cleansing of Serbs there, during the 2004 pogrom? What do you have to say about, Willi, Albanian EU spokesman?

Dragan: "Serbs (will) ... also be free to practise their language, religion and culture without prejudice, harrassment and oppression in the entire territory of Croatia" - Do you ever think before you people write something, as it is presented to you by the droning Serbian media? What of the Serb language schools in say Vukovar? And how are Serb churches suppressed in Croatia? Where? Harassment? Again, where? And how are minority rights for Croats treated in Serbia proper? Serbs in Croatia, like Croats in Serbia are a minority. What of your beloved Republika Srpska? Do you have any objectivity in your statements? Your distance from reality is disturbing; I have many Serb friends on a professional level in Serbia, and, they do not speak in these terms, but in fact respect, enjoy, and travel to Croatia ongoingly, and love to do so. And we have rational conversations and remain friends.

Koha, I'd like to hear your opinion on Jasenovac in relation to let say, Srebrenica, Operation Storm, etc. Do you think the crimes are comparable / similar? Which was / is worse? What are your thoughts on how each crimes were finally judged? Was justice served in either case? If Koha cannot / does not want to answer this, I'd like to hear from anyone else on the "other" side.

Jasenovac was genocide, this is ethnic cleansing. Still a war crime, but mislabeled for sure. The survival of the Serb people was never at risk, just as Bosnians and Albanians weren't. Does no one study history anymore?

Wrong Zelko. Like I stated before, Croatia was smuggling a lot of arms through Hungarian border well before any trouble.
Why is that? Croatia had plans to separate quite early on (actually very soon after WW2) and grabbed the chance when Slovenia went.
You guys were preparing for all this and brought back all your old Nazi symbols. What did you expect the Serbs to do? Did you think that Serbs were going to lie down like sheep and let you slaughter them? They knew they had to arm themselves and fight back.
Go tell you crap to someone who doesn't know all this.

Thomasio,

Please don't play the "professional" game and claim in the same breath that your friends in Belgrade, who probably never lived through the pogrom or have links from Croatia and RS, have nothing to say and go there and la di fn da. Your denial of the reality is BS. Not too long ago, a family member was harassed and beaten on the seacoast for being a Serb. A few years before that an uncle had his rental car from Belgrade destroyed in Dubrovnik. Churches spray painted. Kids in school chastised for being Orthodox in the Lika area. A close family friend from Dvor na Uni had his house broken into, vandalized and had death threats. Keep up with your FN denials.

Amazing! Werent Serbs the ones which started killing the Croats first. If I recall it was the Serb rebels which were bombarding Croatian towns and sending missiles to Zagreb. This victim type of mentality is beyond sickening!
(John, 4 August 2012 16:09)

So I am guessing that Croatians knew all this was to take place so that's why they were bringing in all the arms smuggled though Hungarian border BEFORE any hint of trouble.
Yes, I can see how Serbs started all this.

@willi pfaff, the albanian with the german nick-name: thank you for being so generously predicting Serbia to have a future! =) you made me laugh out, thanks for that one.

@John: ( probably just another cowardly Albanian hiding behind a foreign nick-name )
actually, the only sickening thing here is the level of serb-hating-stupidity amongst you Albanians...

and there I come to "energ" who at least took a neutral nick-name: boy, you should inform yourself a tiny little bit about the definition of "genocide" within todays circles of the UN, perhaps then you won´t write senseless comments on what is genocide and what´s not ( according to your narrow view on that topic ).

folks, I am amused. thanks for giving me a laugh once again this afternoon... =)

How about you tell us by which law they had the right to separate.
Actually by arming themselves against the country they lived in turned them into traitors and treason is punishable by death.

Thomasio,

Your lack of ability to see things clearly through your distorted lenses is only of one your weak points, while the penchant hate you hold within you against Serbs is the other. Keep looking at the wine glass in one direction only.

The Yugoslav Constitution allowed every republic to vote for independence. You must be getting mixed up with the autonomous regions to think Croatia had no right to gain independence. Either way Croatia held a democratic referendum on independence and 93.24% of the voters voted yes.
