I don't care specificly for him either, he should do his time for the beating, but please, lifetime for a bar brawl?

I would consider this claim valid when the US gave up this "brave" man to Romania "Staff Sgt. Christopher Van Goethem" google his name if you don't know who he is.

Considering that Miladin stood up and did a bar fight to defend his BOSNJAK (bosnian muslim) friends honor when his likewise bosnjak girlfriend was grouped by another man?

An incident that turned uggly, and should be punished, but then let on to move forward. Lifetime is not an appropriate punishment for a bar brawl.

BTW
I am happy to see that Bryan Steinhauser has recovered and is doing well now. I hope that he will go on with his life and put this behing him. He will succed and be happy if he (or his parents) doesn't live in the past and instead look forward.

The Serbian government paid USD 900,000 to Steinhauer's family in March 2009, after reaching an agreement with the U.S. State Attorney's Office to abandon the prosecution of Kovačević and that he is tried in Serbia."

A very shady story. Why does the Serbian government has to pay 100s of 1000s of $$ when some wannabe-boxer attacks and severely injures other people in a club? Or is it because the inglorious behavior of the Serbian Embassy in the USA which helped him to flee to Serbia by issuing a new passport?
(Comm. Parrisson, 27 April 2012 17:09)
The amount was paid because of actions by the Serbian Embassey. There are a lot of questions as to what is going on, unfortunately the only news source can find anything is this article which is sketchy. I too find it hard to believe IF the original agreement was for the US to abandon prosecution this would happen now.
My guess is either that was not part of the agreement or there is some mistake in this report.

@ As for the U.S. requesting his extradition: from what I understood initially, the Serbian government can't do this legally. If they were to do it, was the U.S. going to pay Serbia the $900,000 USD that was payed to the family of this young man? And why after the initial agreement is the U.S. pushing for extradition again?
(Steve B., 27 April 2012 17:10)

Thank you Steve, I was beginning to wonder if all the hate filled comments were going to detract from the core question of this story.
The Americans took the money as part of an agreement not to prosecute in the US. Now they say they will seek extradition?? I am in no way condoning the violence however it does beg the question as to why the Americans have dropped their side of the deal? Imagine the shouting that would happen if the guy was American and the deal was that he wouldnt be prosecuted in Serbia. Do you imagine the American press would stay quiet if Serbia, after the deal had been done, then demanded his extradition? I think not!

I hope this guy gets his ass handed to him in the Serbian prison. After he serves his time though, he is a free man. 2 years in prison is a long time for a bar fight, especially when he didn't use a weapon. People get off on murder all around the world with a 7 year sentence. I hope his 2 years are very rough on him.

It's so hard to find the 'other side' of the story in American media.

But Kovacevic apparently beat the sh*t out of a guy who he saw grope a girl in the bar who was with her boyfriend.

This is the girl's statement: Her daughter released a statement in which she said Steinhauer groped her and head-butted her boyfriend, Senal Softic, 21, when they clashed at an offcampus bar May 4.

"This big guy [Kovacevic] saw what happened and just began punching him over and over," she wrote in the statement. "It all happened so quick."

I definitely don't think anyone deserves a beating that badly, but the guy definitely deserved a beating for groping another guy's girlfriend and headbutting her boyfriend.... what do people expect??? For this behaviour to be tolerated?????

I wish the guy a full recovery but the story is definitely not so black and white like the US media make it out to be. They don't mention that the 'victim' groped a girl first and head butted her boyfriend... I think this is a very important factor in the beating.

All the US media do is call him a THUG from SERBIA etc etc

I am curious if you would dare to say something like that into his face, you little internet warrior...
This guy is 7 ft,and all muscles, A REAL SERB!
(CG, 27 April 2012 15:20)

It doesnt matter if he's 8 ft 10 and 300 lbs. Right now (and hopefully in the US too), he's the one who's "picking up the soap" in the jail showers. So stop finding excuses for his crimes.

"People like you believe that a man like this is to be revered and idolized like an icon for the crime he committed."

well, dear ( cowardly ) Albanian, hiding behind "NATO" ... ( a true Albanian, actually ) I´d say this applies to you guys! if we take a look onto that issue...it´s the Albanians who call their criminals "heroes"... don´t they?

I mean, if you are a simple night-club-bouncer, in the albanian society it qualifies you to be a high-rank official, albeit only of a fake-state, but nevertheless...you should know who is meant.

or Mr.Touchy, a criminal to the bone, who even if wearing a suit, looks more like a metal-gatherer than a hero, but ... still, you call him a hero!

and YOU little k-albanian kid are bragging in here about having caught someone in your rather laughable trap?

you made my day! =) and by the way, keep hiding behind "NATO" ...that perfectly displays your nature, my dear k-albanian friend.

And Serbia keep hiding behind the border between Kosova and Serbia. If you were tough you would step over the line and take back whats yours. right? I thought so. We are all happy.

You yourself said you are living in Chicago. Really you should stop trying to be a tough internet warrior challenging people in a land you never stepped foot in to fights because you will be safe in Chicago while the people there will be dying.

b92 why do you allow albo trolls to constantly post their filth on this site?

Indeed, this was the most foolish step the embassy could do. That has and will have repercussion for all Serbian citizens in the States. And for what? For a primitive thug.

Just look at that picture. I so hope he is arrested and extradited. He thinks hes tough? Wait until they toss him into Folsom prison and he can be with "real" tough guys who will make him their bit*h.

It seems you have experience from there mate.
