Right so you want to talk about Jasenovac now??? Well, Djokovic has got a set point in the background here, so I'll pass.
(bganon, 27 January 2012 12:42)
============================

There you go again. I only asked you a question whether we should hide Jasenovac and not stated that I wanted to talk about it.

By asking me such a ridiculous question as if I think we should behave like them when CLEARLY I never implied it you were trying to put words in my mouth. You tried to connect me with that statement.

Something tells me you are scared to speak the truth.

Nevermind, Djokovic is not. At least we seem to be on the same wavelength when it comes to him, I hope.

no nonsense

pre 14 godina

Now, cut the crap and do your job. There are dozens of organized thugs harrassing peaceful fans. What are anyway doing there? Get your a** on the street and find them.

And to all my Croatian friends, I can just recommend, leave this country or don't go there. Enjoy the games in TV. I know, it is not the same, but it is not worth risking your lifes.

Thank you not to put words in my mouth.

I didn't - I asked you a question.

Whats wrong is that this isn't about them, its about us. This news item is about what happened in Novi Sad. 'The news' as you call it, is not the news, what you mean is the statement from Dacic reacting to the news about football hooliganism in Novi Sad.

Right so you want to talk about Jasenovac now??? Well, Djokovic has got a set point in the background here, so I'll pass.

"Are you advocating behaving as you perceive Croats as behaving? I advocate stamping out the silliness, not imitating it and then arguing about who did it first."
(bganon, 27 January 2012 03:15)
==========================

Thank you not to put words in my mouth. I did not say that Serbs should behave the same way and you know it so why make it look like I did?
What is wrong with drawing their attention to the fact that they behave this way all the time?
Are we supposed to hide the truth now in case we offend them?
If they don't like the news, then they should STOP making the news.

Yeah, hide what they do but expose everything we do wrong. That is really going to help. While we are at it, why don't we hide that Jasenovac happened too because it only exposes what Croats are capable of.
You ask me why we should tell the truth. That's why. They certainly wouldn't keep it a secret if Serbs provoked them and we all know they are happy to bash them even when they don't.

Why are you so interested in hiding the fact that Croats do this?

So I ask you, what is wrong with telling the truth? Why is the truth so offensive to them? You ask how does it help. It helps by shutting them up because they don't have a leg to stand on as they do worse.

"I've been attacked in the past for 'daring' to go on Holiday in a Serbian registered vehicle to Croatia. And I'm English!!!!! "

Three years ago I visited all countries/regions that have emerged from former Yugoslavia - including northern & southern Kosovo. I figured out the best license plate for this purpose was a Macedonian one from Skopje. It could either belong to a Macedonian or an ethnic Albanian and nobody knows for sure.

Possible alternatives:
- a car with a neutral Bosnian license plate. Nobody knows if it belongs to a Serb, Croat or Bosniak.
- a car with a license plate from Podgorica. It could either belong to a Montenegrin...
- Maybe a license plate from the Sandzak region???

I actually think something will be done about this only if Serbia keeps striking back whenever Serbs are abused in Croatia. Because for many years Croats got away with it again and again and it still goes on. But if they start worrying about their own people, it will make them think twice about assaulting a Serb in Croatia.
I notice that most Croats don't care about abuse of Serbs but they get so upset and paranoid to hear about similar things happening to their people.
This incidents shows there is a price to pay and fallout from the abuse Serbs have taken over the years.

Well they can always hold the tournament in Pristina, but opps they can’t because your Albanians kicked all the Croats out of Kosovo in 1999. Maybe your Albanians can go to Croatia, opps no you cant as the Croats have kicked out your Albanians during Operation Luja.

Attacks on Croat fans in Serbia represent unacceptable incidents that damage Serbia's reputation, and we should not behave like they do, when our people go there (to Croatia)," the minister told reporters.

And to John - I too am English and have driven through Croatia with Serbian number plates.

Luckily I had no problems because I either stayed on the main Zagreb-Belgrade motorway or, when I drove to Dubrovnik once, I entered Croatia from Srpska, just after Trebinje, which is only a short distance from the city.

Nevertheless, the owner of the small hotel near Dubrovnik where we stayed hid my car in his garage for the duration of the visit.

the actions of a few idiots should not refelct an entire nation - Serb , Croat , regardless. However the words of a Minister in a governement DO reflect on an entire nation. Mr Dacic , just as those hooligans can rightly be portrayed as idiots , so to can you join their ranks.

Mind you - I still dont think the actions or words of these imbeciles reflect the average decent Serbian. Perhaps if all regional leaders saw fit to behave like Messers Tadic and Josipovic for example , a true regional peacefull dialogue can be sustained.

Serbia is not the only place in the world that has problems with hoolies but really what happend the other night no excuses. I know a couple of Croatian guys living in Novi Sad and right now they are keeping a low profile. They should not be forced to do this. They live and work in Serbia. I rang my friend Ante and he is nervous. These hoolies bring nothing but shame to Serbia. It is time for Mr Dacic to direct the police to catch every single one of them and throw them in jail. I am sick and tired that when myself and my brother go to Partizan games there is nearly always trouble because some idiots decide it would be a great idea to rip up seats and throw them at the police and in the end we all get teargassed. My Albanian neighbour gave up going to the football games long time ago because of all the trouble.

Maybe Dacic should focus on trying to have the police actually do their JOB and arrest these hooligans. The whole issue of hooligans realistically cannot be only a serbian or croatian problem. They are everywhere in Europe in the US etc. However, the real problem lies with the fact that the police are not organized, corrupt, and the judicial system completely not functioning. The punishments for crimes in Serbia are so weak that it really is shameful. Interestingly enough the police knew where most of these hooligans were located..so instead of being preventive they choose to do nothing. Now they have arrested a token few.. the big question will be will they be charged and what will their punishment be. This is the end is the ultimate deterrent. Without proper punishment these hooligans will only become bolder and more outrageous. Comments like the one Dacic gave is only lip service and pandering to the lowest level.

Now lets set to one side what he said and focus on something.
This man in the Serbian Minister of the Interior / Minister of Police. He is one of the most senior persons in the Serbian government and in Serbia.

As a senior representative of Serbia one of his responsibilities is to contribute to a positive image and good relations with other countries. Of course that isn't his job, but it is his responsibility not to harm this.

Now here he comes in electoral campaigning / populist / common man mode thinking 'hmm, I might be able to pick up a few votes by telling patriotic Serbs they aren't as bad as Croats in language they understand'.

This fool needs to understand that he can't abuse his position in this way for electoral gain and neither can he talk like a private person on the street. As a senior official of Serbia he speaks in the name of Serbia. The other day we had something similar with the head of the national library having signed a petition to support that Greek sounding guy (Krivokapic's secretary or whatever) and his controversial statement. Now as a writer, he is entirely within his rights to sign such a petition, whether I disagree with it or not. However, he is (was, now he's sacked) head of the national library. He does not have the LUXURY to speak as a private person. The same goes for Dacic.

As for Dacic's statement itself, I will hold off making full comment. I will say though that he is being like Croatian Ministers in the past for generalising statements about Serbs. I didn't like it then, and I don't like it now.

It's interesting that from my knowledge of English punctuation

this statement is politically correct:
"not to attack Croat fans and behave like Croats who attack Serb fans"

while if you add a comma to it:
"not to attack Croat fans and behave like Croats, who attack Serb fans"
if won't be politically correct.

This is a perfect opportunity to show Croatia that we do not lower ourselves to their level.
Frustrating as it may be (I was myself threatened by a Split supporter a few years ago in Montenegro) we must stop these hooligans, they are not representing Serbia and we should hit down hard on them.

Attacks on Croat fans in Serbia represent unacceptable incidents that damage Serbia's reputation, and we should not behave like they do, when our people go there (to Croatia)," the minister told reporters.

In this sentence alone, he is already "attacking" Croatia.

I've been attacked in the past for 'daring' to go on Holiday in a Serbian registered vehicle to Croatia. And I'm English!!!!!
Dacic is correct in what he says.
Serbs must not lower themselves to the same level as Croats.
They came to Novi Sad and stood there giving the Nazi salute all through the game, what did they expect?

It's interesting that from my knowledge of English punctuation

this statement is politically correct:
"not to attack Croat fans and behave like Croats who attack Serb fans"

while if you add a comma to it:
"not to attack Croat fans and behave like Croats, who attack Serb fans"
if won't be politically correct.

Sigh. Only in Serbia...
(Miki, 26 January 2012 15:39)

and also in Croatia (Split) where I was attacked in a bar, and my windshield smashed. My crime, for being a 'Serb'.

Time to get real and defeat the hoolies once and for all.

lollee3

pre 14 godina

Well they can always hold the tournament in Pristina, but opps they can’t because your Albanians kicked all the Croats out of Kosovo in 1999. Maybe your Albanians can go to Croatia, opps no you cant as the Croats have kicked out your Albanians during Operation Luja.

You guys deserve each other.

On a much happier note the Croats have to kiss Serbian backside otherwise bye bye Croatia as it cannot survive on its own LOL mate LOL.

Spoken like a true Christian, Lenard.

- Maybe a license plate from the Sandzak region???

the actions of a few idiots should not refelct an entire nation - Serb , Croat , regardless.
