Why haven't you heard in the last 12 years about a UNSC Resolution with number 1244 which established an international civil presence in Kosovo called UNMIK, which said in Regulation no 3 of 1999:

I think Tadic would agree to recognize Kosovo if Serbia gets northen Kosovo and probably Southern Serbian enclaves. But Prishtina and the West are against it.

I agree with your statement Ivan. We need to ditch the whole idea of joining EU in order to make our economy better. All we need to do is take back Kosovo and we can start new talks with Russian and Chinese companies to establish mining and oil camps since this is covered all over kosovo and the only reason why USA is even there. Serbia's economy will increase largely and it will create more jobs for Serbs.
This type of article is the mentality that everyone needs to have, its because of the Serbs in kosovo for not giving up and defending the barricades that has given Serbs in Belgrade hope and courage.

As far as Kosovo is concerned I don't deal in theoreticals. We can argue legalities all day and night. However, its the facts on the ground that make the difference. Most of Kosovo is independent of Serbia, yes. There are no Serbs living there, no Serbian institutions there, no Serbian government influence there and throughout Kosovo, thanks to Milosevic, no Serbian army there and plenty of foreign troops there. Its also a fact that parts of North Kosovo are effectively under Serbian control.
Now if you want to go on pretending about it then I suggest travelling throughout Kosovo to see for yourself. And I don't mean just a brief visit to Decani and Mitrovica.

We already had a war, that is what put us in this position in the first place. The mistake of not negotiating lost us control of the vast majority of Kosovo. Is there no lesson to be learned here?
Besides, there is no apetite for war in Serbia. We had a decade of war in the 1990's and that period is gone and good riddance to it.
The Albanians don't want a compromise? Well the only thing is to channel all of our efforts in making sure they do. This involves actually reaching out to Kosovo Albanians directly, over the heads of their politicians. Our politicians (because they are scared of being accused of treachery by the right) are too afraid and unimaginative to do this. It also involves finding a willing Kosovo Albanian political partner. Its possible that preliminary talks of this nature are already going on unofficially.
More difficult situations than Kosovo have been solved in history. These negotiations are not achieving much, Serbs and Albanians would agree on that front and one of the main reasons is because we are both being pushed into it rather than genuinely supporting negotiations ourselves.

What Russia really could do is to influence a recognition dynamics.
IMHO it would be ideal if Russia made KFOR responsible for their actions. KFOR didn't come to change Kosovo status, but to make people's lives better there, so KFOR should make possible for KSerbs to settle everywhere in Kosovo and feel at home there. KFOR failed to do it so far, but doesn't take any responsibility for its own misdoing.
For example if a worker signed up to build a house and that house broke later on, the worker is to pay a penalty, which is not the case with KFOR unfortunately.

The US is actively supporting Georgia but that didn't help its claim to Ab and SO did it? In fact, it made it worse as Russia and some other countries have recognised them as independent. They even have their own army, which is more than "Kosova" has but not even I would claim either Ab or SO are independent. Russia is at the correct distance for the moment. Any closer and it would have a negative effect on KiM, just like the US has had on Ab and SO.
Now you claim you don't support "Kosova" independence but you are claiming it already is. You are basically taking the same line as the sell-outs, whose position is that it is lost and we should just negotiate it away for EU membership. It's true that there are Albanians who are members of the Islamic faith but aren't you aware that some Albanians are Catholics and some are Orthodox Christians and some of them are probably atheists as well. My point is that I'm just saying that not every single Albanian is a Muslim.
I've always loved this line of argument 'Albanians do not want a compromise'. What compromise is Serbia offering? None. It wants Kosovo, but not the people. I have to say this and will not hold back now, ordinary Serbs do not want Albanians to be equal citizens, because that is what keeping Kosovo means. It means Albanians get the right to vote in elections, get the right to be in Serbia's government, get the right to veto laws etc.Most Serbs still point blank refuse to accept that Albanians had any legitimate grievances. In fact, most of them still say things like 'go back to Albania'. With viewpoints like those, what is there to compromise on? Nothing. The solution has already been found, Kosovo is its own country. Anything else is a prelude to more wars.

I stated that Russian policy would not change on Kosovo. Russian stance on Kosovo, if you haven't noticed, has been ineffective. If Russia chose to make Kosovo a policy priority things could be very difficult for the US and Kosovo Albanians. If Russia made its position as clear as crystal that the Kosovo issue was one of the main issues to the US, that would be actively defending Kosovo. That is never going to happen in a zillion years. Grow up and get over it.
Before you accuse me of supporting Kosovo independence that is not what I'm saying. Just because Russia won't reverse Kosovo independence doesn't mean there cannot be a compromise. Its a much lesser price to get Russia to support a compromise on Kosovo, although you might think we get Russian support for free.

Peggy I haven't decided who I will vote for yet. I don't know if the Green Party will decide to field candidates - it has been more active of late. I might vote for them. God knows we haven't much of a choice here.
Its not clear that I would give up Kosovo. I would state that if it were the case, that would be clear. Its clear that I have supported and always supported a compromise solution. I might add that I supported a compromise when the majority of political parties in Serbia and their supporters in the diaspora supported going to war in Kosovo.
That policy by the way (and all those who supported it by extension) are responsible for what transpired afterwards. I'm talking about before Ramboullet, so lets not go over old ground. We had many months preceeding an all out blow out in Kosovo, to do a deal with Rugova. After that our troops were forced out from Kosovo as we signed a deal ceding control of Kosovo to US and international troops.
So I most vigorously refuse responsiblity for the current situation in Kosovo and that I would give it away. On the contrary, Milosevic almost gave Kosovo away, together with those that supported his Kosovo policy. Those of us not reponsible for that have been fighting a rear guard action ever since their mistake.
And as you know I have spent too much time urging Albanians here (and elsewhere) to come to table.
Also and I've said this many times as well, EU membership is not an answer to our ills. Economic growth, the fight against corruption, reduction in unemployment, health system, (chaotic) transport system. These are the issues that face us every single day of our lives. If we can do that better staying out of the EU, then lets not join the EU!
Many here comment that it is weakness from NATO and the US that will put Kosovo back into the hands of Serbia. But not everyone in the US loves NATO or thinks the Albanian separatists deserve independence in Kosovo. The US can no longer blindly sit by while Albanians cry wolf in Kosovo. We've got too many here making life miserable for us.
We should give Bondsteel to the Serbs, apologize to them, and wash our hands of the Albanians and their lies. The Albanians should be then grateful, the Serbs will give them more than we ever would, more than they deserve.

The really great thing about America is people are free to think whatever, it makes no difference whether it makes sense, or is true. But thank goodness there are not many who think like you do. Since returning to the US in 2009 from Kosovo I have had many conversations with people about the US involvement in Kosovo, and I have heard many different opinions on what our role in the balkans should be but I have never had anyone actually tell me that they thought we should apologize to the Serbs.
A lot of people think that we can not be the policemen of the world and alot think we should not. I have heard that we should not be involved because they think it does not affect us but I have never heard them say the cause was wrong.

It is stated that back in 1999 that after Serb forces withdrew after NATO's intervention in the Kosovar conflict that some ethnic Albanian refugees who returned to Kosovo wreaked vengeance against Serb civilians by looting and burning their homes,murdering elderly civilians where it got so bad that some or many Serbs have fled never to return.(The source of this information are stuff I'm paraphrasing from a biography of Milosevic written by Adam LeBor.) Doesn't Dadic wish to view the "big picture"(if you will) of what the consequences or repercussions can be in the event he issues a declaration of war?
Even if the Serb army is more sophisticated than the Kosovar Liberation Army( if that name is still in existence) can such a factor honestly guarantee victory for the Serb army? I'm venturing the possibility that some Albanians have formed the mentality that as long as the '"Albanian man" doesn't back down that he may stand a chance to vanquish his foes,adversaries,etc.' Finally and in the event Dadic declares war against ethnic Albanians and if (only if) there are Albanians who'd enlist in the Serb army then if would be my opinion (and possibly some others as well) that such Albanians would be "treacherous idiots" to join the Serb army for such a purpose so therefore it wouldn't bother me if the Serb army and POTENTIAL Albanians who are traitors to their compatriots end up being vanquished.

WOW... thats all i got to say. Albanians actually THINK they can beat Serbia? When it was NATO against Serbia, day 77 of the Bombing, where were the KLA? I just googled the news from that day. Look it up, Serbia was in TOTAL control of Kosovo and not only that it actually went INSIDE of ALBANIA proper and attacked KLA bases operating inside of it. Serbia only withdrew from Kosovo AFTER Nato agreed (and did not keep their word btw) that Serbia's borders will be GUARANTEED and that Serbian army and border patrols will return to Kosovo as soon as the situation stabilized and 800,000 Albos could come out of their tents and come back to Serbia and live in an AUTONOMOUS province.
Back then, none of Serbia's allies could protect us. They were in need of help themselves. Today? Its a different world we live in. Our allies are stronger, and our enemies are weaker. The day will come when Serbia in co-operation with its TRUE allies, will get the go ahead to UNDO what the West tried to take (military base, & minerals). Serbia will not need any help in destroying its enemies (Albanians, and even Bosnians / Croats if they dare interfere). They would quickly find out why Serbia produces WORLD CLASS academics / athletes. I hate to admit it, but it just comes down to simple human genetics. Serbs have it, Albanians don't. Look at our history, Serbs have only ever been defeated when its 10+ against one, and even then the enemy will have to go through absolute HELL just to beat us (until we come back to attack them again, in which case they leave for good).

Russia has nothing to reverse because Kosovo is NOT independent. If it were, it would have no trouble getting a seat in the UN, being able to participate in more events than just Miss World and would not need UN to hold any negotiations with anyone in their name.
So you see, Russia has nothing to reverse. And the reason for this is precisely that, Russia is supporting Serbia and has made it possible that Serbia has not lost Kosovo.

Russia always has defended KiM within Serbia. It stopped the Ahtisaari Plan being adopted. "Kosova" cannot join the UN because of the Russian (and Chinese) veto. It is all diplomatic at the moment but Russia has done more for KiM than the current sell-outs. They have been attempting to engineer "Kosova" independence through the EU but even that has failed.
This whole "Kosova" project is a joke. Look at Palestine, it has a seat at UNESCO. Why doesn't "Kosova" attempt the same? It is fairly clear actually, there just isn't enough international support. War is never a good option for anyone. If Serbs go to war, they will do so only if there is no other option. Serbia has lost a lot due to war. However, the people in the North of Kosovo do not want to be part of an independent Kosovo and it is Serbia's right to protect them. The negotiations at this point are a farce. They are actually intended only to have Serbia capitulate to the EU's desires. I see nothing resulting from these negotiations that supports any single Serbian desire. Thus they are not and should not be called negotiations. Unfortunately, the only thing the Western countries understand is force. They pretend they are civilized but if you look at how England, Germany, and other Western powers have achieved their aims thus far, it's always been through the use of force. When Serbia tries to negotiate peacefully, it gets them nowhere. Indeed they look weak and are treated as weaklings. So, although undesirable, war may be an option.

This is proof that the unltra-nationalists still run Belgrade. Another war would be the last straw and would probably lead to a complete disarmament of its military and the loss of Presheva, Medoreva and Bojanov. Sorry, you got it all wrong. I do not know the identity of the soldier aka exkfor, but he mention the former UNMIK Police station commander in Zubin Potok, which I happened to know him very well, including his every single assignment while in Kosova.

Unfortunately, I see the war options inevitable. The big losers from the war will be people of northern Kosovo and Mitrovica. Serbs government, by supporting Serbs of Kosovo to declare independence of Northern Kosovo are gaining political points as the elections are just one step away. In the war, Tadic and all government parties would gain some points from the massmedia and general Serbian population. At the same time, the war will give more points to Thaci government. Europe is getting tired of long negotiations that are not getting anywhere. By going to war, Europe would finalize the new borders on Kosovo. Its clear who is going to win the war, and the big losers would be Serbs of Kosovo that will be ethnically cleansed out of Kosovo. More of less a Krajina project will take place. Serbs are the one that are asking for this as it is clear that the will be no independence for 50,000 people of Northern Kosovo.

War is never a good option for anyone. If Serbs go to war, they will do so only if there is no other option. Serbia has lost a lot due to war. However, the people in the North of Kosovo do not want to be part of an independent Kosovo and it is Serbia's right to protect them. The negotiations at this point are a farce. They are actually intended only to have Serbia capitulate to the EU's desires. I see nothing resulting from these negotiations that supports any single Serbian desire. Thus they are not and should not be called negotiations. Unfortunately, the only thing the Western countries understand is force. They pretend they are civilized but if you look at how England, Germany, and other Western powers have achieved their aims thus far, it's always been through the use of force. When Serbia tries to negotiate peacefully, it gets them nowhere. Indeed they look weak and are treated as weaklings. So, although undesirable, war may be an option.

Look it up, Serbia was in TOTAL control of Kosovo and not only that it actually went INSIDE of ALBANIA proper and attacked KLA bases operating inside of it. Serbia only withdrew from Kosovo AFTER Nato agreed (and did not keep their word btw) that Serbia's borders will be GUARANTEED and that Serbian army and border patrols will return to Kosovo as soon as the situation stabilized and 800,000 Albos could come out of their tents and come back to Serbia and live in an AUTONOMOUS province.
Back then, none of Serbia's allies could protect us. They were in need of help themselves. Today? Its a different world we live in. Our allies are stronger, and our enemies are weaker. The day will come when Serbia in co-operation with its TRUE allies, will get the go ahead to UNDO what the West tried to take (military base, & minerals). Serbia will not need any help in destroying its enemies (Albanians, and even Bosnians / Croats if they dare interfere). They would quickly find out why Serbia produces WORLD CLASS academics / athletes. I hate to admit it, but it just comes down to simple human genetics. Serbs have it, Albanians don't. Look at our history, Serbs have only ever been defeated when its 10+ against one, and even then the enemy will have to go through absolute HELL just to beat us (until we come back to attack them again, in which case they leave for good).
I look forward to Serbia NOT becoming an EU member. I look forward to having our day to avenge the loss of Kosovo (which was our own fault, we GAVE it to you). Wont be making that mistake twice!

Unfortunately, I see the war options inevitable. The big losers from the war will be people of northern Kosovo and Mitrovica. Serbs government, by supporting Serbs of Kosovo to declare independence of Northern Kosovo are gaining political points as the elections are just one step away. In the war, Tadic and all government parties would gain some points from the massmedia and general Serbian population. At the same time, the war will give more points to Thaci government. Europe is getting tired of long negotiations that are not getting anywhere. By going to war, Europe would finalize the new borders on Kosovo. Its clear who is going to win the war, and the big losers would be Serbs of Kosovo that will be ethnically cleansed out of Kosovo. More of less a Krajina project will take place. Serbs are the one that are asking for this as it is clear that the will be no independence for 50,000 people of Northern Kosovo.
Many here comment that it is weakness from NATO and the US that will put Kosovo back into the hands of Serbia. But not everyone in the US loves NATO or thinks the Albanian separatists deserve independence in Kosovo. The US can no longer blindly sit by while Albanians cry wolf in Kosovo. We've got too many here making life miserable for us.
We should give Bondsteel to the Serbs, apologize to them, and wash our hands of the Albanians and their lies. The Albanians should be then grateful, the Serbs will give them more than we ever would, more than they deserve.
There wont be a war anytime soon, but when NATO's finances are in the gutter and then abandon camp bonsteel then the Serbs will be back

Russia always has defended KiM within Serbia. It stopped the Ahtisaari Plan being adopted. "Kosova" cannot join the UN because of the Russian (and Chinese) veto. It is all diplomatic at the moment but Russia has done more for KiM than the current sell-outs. They have been attempting to engineer "Kosova" independence through the EU but even that has failed.
This whole "Kosova" project is a joke. Look at Palestine, it has a seat at UNESCO. Why doesn't "Kosova" attempt the same? It is fairly clear actually, there just isn't enough international support. Any kind of vote at the UN has been fiercely avoided presumably to hide the truth about this stillbirth "nation".
Anyway, you belong with the sell-outs. Your attempt at "negotiations" has been shown to be a fraud and that is a real shame because this was the greatest opportunity to bring lasting peace to the region. The West just can't help being the egotistical bully that it is. Must be in its nature, which will be its undoing.

Russia has nothing to reverse because Kosovo is NOT independent. If it were, it would have no trouble getting a seat in the UN, being able to participate in more events than just Miss World and would not need UN to hold any negotiations with anyone in their name.

I served with italian troops too and they did not like Albanian criminality - might be out of resentment that their own mafia was being turned underdog in Italy. I saw how at Italian MSU parties Albanian girls were trying to sell themselves off to foreign troops with the only goal to escape KiM...

We already had a war, that is what put us in this position in the first place. The mistake of not negotiating lost us control of the vast majority of Kosovo. Is there no lesson to be learned here?
Besides, there is no apetite for war in Serbia. We had a decade of war in the 1990's and that period is gone and good riddance to it.
The Albanians don't want a compromise? Well the only thing is to channel all of our efforts in making sure they do. This involves actually reaching out to Kosovo Albanians directly, over the heads of their politicians. Our politicians (because they are scared of being accused of treachery by the right) are too afraid and unimaginative to do this. It also involves finding a willing Kosovo Albanian political partner. Its possible that preliminary talks of this nature are already going on unofficially.
More difficult situations than Kosovo have been solved in history. These negotiations are not achieving much, Serbs and Albanians would agree on that front and one of the main reasons is because we are both being pushed into it rather than genuinely supporting negotiations ourselves.
There is always a way Peggy, just because Serb and Albanian leaderships are too backward and cowardly to do this now, does not mean we are doomed and it does not mean we should go to war.

I agree with your statement Ivan. We need to ditch the whole idea of joining EU in order to make our economy better. All we need to do is take back Kosovo and we can start new talks with Russian and Chinese companies to establish mining and oil camps since this is covered all over kosovo and the only reason why USA is even there. Serbia's economy will increase largely and it will create more jobs for Serbs.
This type of article is the mentality that everyone needs to have, its because of the Serbs in kosovo for not giving up and defending the barricades that has given Serbs in Belgrade hope and courage.
Lastly, if a war is to happen, and once the albos get crushed, Albanians that want to live in Kosovo will have to agree with Serbia's terms and if not go back to Albania if you do not like it. Its pretty simple..

Peggy I haven't decided who I will vote for yet. I don't know if the Green Party will decide to field candidates - it has been more active of late. I might vote for them. God knows we haven't much of a choice here.
Its not clear that I would give up Kosovo. I would state that if it were the case, that would be clear. Its clear that I have supported and always supported a compromise solution. I might add that I supported a compromise when the majority of political parties in Serbia and their supporters in the diaspora supported going to war in Kosovo.
That policy by the way (and all those who supported it by extension) are responsible for what transpired afterwards. I'm talking about before Ramboullet, so lets not go over old ground. We had many months preceeding an all out blow out in Kosovo, to do a deal with Rugova. After that our troops were forced out from Kosovo as we signed a deal ceding control of Kosovo to US and international troops.
So I most vigorously refuse responsiblity for the current situation in Kosovo and that I would give it away. On the contrary, Milosevic almost gave Kosovo away, together with those that supported his Kosovo policy. Those of us not reponsible for that have been fighting a rear guard action ever since their mistake.
And as you know I have spent too much time urging Albanians here (and elsewhere) to come to table.
Also and I've said this many times as well, EU membership is not an answer to our ills. Economic growth, the fight against corruption, reduction in unemployment, health system, (chaotic) transport system. These are the issues that face us every single day of our lives. If we can do that better staying out of the EU, then lets not join the EU!

I maintain I take strong leave to doubt that you EVER were part of KFOR, because let me tell you, I have met KFOR soldiers and they do not share you convictions. That though is something else. What I also could not fail to notice in another of your posts, was your description of Albanian girls as 'SELLING' themselves to KFOR soldiers. That is the word you used, selling. Do you think they were prostitutes or something? Did they not 'sell' themselves to you and you suffer from jealousy? You see, when you write things like that, you immediately give an insight into your psyche and you either have some sort of ideal about women in general or the more likely bit, you're not very good with them. Do you think women in the west who go to disco's are selling themselves too?
As for Christianity and Europe, this is not the place to be discussing it in, however, I will indulge. You may indeed say things like you're not practicing and whatnot, however, the rest of your posts betrays your points. You have already made it clear you support the Serbian side by virtue of religion. Fine. However, do not then tell me you're not a practicing person, because that is to be dishonest with yourself. You are very obviously a Christian zealot who forms his opinions, not on discussion, but on scripture. Its OK, you do not have to pretend to be a 'European' because your true feelings are shining out.

Secondly - i know that there are Christian Albanians but i did not serve in Dakovica, therefore I can not speak about them. What I have read, Muslim Albanians treated during the war Christian Albanians in Kosovo with prejudice as they were suspected to be rather pro-Serb - they did not join UCK en masse and Serb forces in general did not bothered them either - I guess there were of course exceptions.
If Kosovo Albanians were chrstians or atheists or Hindus or Zoroastrians- then I most likely would not take sides as i do now - but i know that the present societal setup of Albanians in KiM is supremacy-driven and selfish nationalism. In light of the proof or allegations that Kosovar-Serbs are "victims" of "reverse" discrimination or oppression by SOME of their Albanian counterparts(of course I'm referring to Kosovar-Albanians) isn't there like some grave concern that if Serbia commences war against Kosovar-Albanians that some Albanians (even the civilians) will feel so disgruntled or something that they might decide to "take it out" on ethnic Serb civilians?,especially,if they realize or feel that the Serb army is gaining the "upper hand." It is stated that back in 1999 that after Serb forces withdrew after NATO's intervention in the Kosovar conflict that some ethnic Albanian refugees who returned to Kosovo wreaked vengeance against Serb civilians by looting and burning their homes,murdering elderly civilians where it got so bad that some or many Serbs have fled never to return.(The source of this information are stuff I'm paraphrasing from a biography of Milosevic written by Adam LeBor.) Doesn't Dadic wish to view the "big picture"(if you will) of what the consequences or repercussions can be in the event he issues a declaration of war?
Even if the Serb army is more sophisticated than the Kosovar Liberation Army( if that name is still in existence) can such a factor honestly guarantee victory for the Serb army? I'm venturing the possibility that some Albanians have formed the mentality that as long as the '"Albanian man" doesn't back down that he may stand a chance to vanquish his foes,adversaries,etc.' Finally and in the event Dadic declares war against ethnic Albanians and if (only if) there are Albanians who'd enlist in the Serb army then if would be my opinion (and possibly some others as well) that such Albanians would be "treacherous idiots" to join the Serb army for such a purpose so therefore it wouldn't bother me if the Serb army and POTENTIAL Albanians who are traitors to their compatriots end up being vanquished.
Many here comment that it is weakness from NATO and the US that will put Kosovo back into the hands of Serbia. But not everyone in the US loves NATO or thinks the Albanian separatists deserve independence in Kosovo. The US can no longer blindly sit by while Albanians cry wolf in Kosovo. We've got too many here making life miserable for us.
We should give Bondsteel to the Serbs, apologize to them, and wash our hands of the Albanians and their lies. The Albanians should be then grateful, the Serbs will give them more than we ever would, more than they deserve.

The really great thing about America is people are free to think whatever, it makes no difference whether it makes sense, or is true. But thank goodness there are not many who think like you do. Since returning to the US in 2009 from Kosovo I have had many conversations with people about the US involvement in Kosovo, and I have heard many different opinions on what our role in the balkans should be but I have never had anyone actually tell me that they thought we should apologize to the Serbs.
A lot of people think that we can not be the policemen of the world and alot think we should not. I have heard that we should not be involved because they think it does not affect us but I have never heard them say the cause was wrong.

If Russia made its position as clear as crystal that the Kosovo issue was one of the main issues to the US, that would be actively defending Kosovo. That is never going to happen in a zillion years. Grow up and get over it.

The US is actively supporting Georgia but that didn't help its claim to Ab and SO did it? In fact, it made it worse as Russia and some other countries have recognised them as independent. They even have their own army, which is more than "Kosova" has but not even I would claim either Ab or SO are independent. Russia is at the correct distance for the moment. Any closer and it would have a negative effect on KiM, just like the US has had on Ab and SO.
Now you claim you don't support "Kosova" independence but you are claiming it already is. You are basically taking the same line as the sell-outs, whose position is that it is lost and we should just negotiate it away for EU membership. Your stance has been fairly clear for a while and is reflected in what you say. In fact, you have a very mechanical way of thinking.
You say Russia cannot reverse independence. What independence? How on earth are they independent? They are just dumb muscle for the west. They do the dirty work like killing Serbs and destroying everything Serbian in Kosovo until there is nothing left but they don't have independence. They are on a tight leash and governed by the US.

And Serbia has done nothing in the past few years to rank higher in the preference order compared to US/EU/UNMIK/EULEX/NATO/Devil.

No Zoran Russia is not willing to actively defend Kosovo within Serbia. It takes more than a vote in the UN and a few choice words you know.
The only thing it could be is that you have absolutely no understanding whatever of diplomacy and world relations.
You cannot comprehend for example how far down on the agenda Kosovo is for Russia when it has bilateral meetings with the US, if its on the agenda at all.

As far as Kosovo is concerned I don't deal in theoreticals. We can argue legalities all day and night. However, its the facts on the ground that make the difference. Most of Kosovo is independent of Serbia, yes. There are no Serbs living there, no Serbian institutions there, no Serbian government influence there and throughout Kosovo, thanks to Milosevic, no Serbian army there and plenty of foreign troops there. Its also a fact that parts of North Kosovo are effectively under Serbian control.
Now if you want to go on pretending about it then I suggest travelling throughout Kosovo to see for yourself. And I don't mean just a brief visit to Decani and Mitrovica.

Recognize independence. that's it. once it does that formally (it has already done it indirectly) we can finally move on with our lives. not one person here has yet to explain to me how it is in Serbia's interest to keep a territory where 90% of the people who live in it, would rather take up arms than be under Serbian rule again. it makes ZERO sense financially, strategically and any other ially you can think of.
I've always loved this line of argument 'Albanians do not want a compromise'. What compromise is Serbia offering? None. It wants Kosovo, but not the people. I have to say this and will not hold back now, ordinary Serbs do not want Albanians to be equal citizens, because that is what keeping Kosovo means. It means Albanians get the right to vote in elections, get the right to be in Serbia's government, get the right to veto laws etc.Most Serbs still point blank refuse to accept that Albanians had any legitimate grievances. In fact, most of them still say things like 'go back to Albania'. With viewpoints like those, what is there to compromise on? Nothing. The solution has already been found, Kosovo is its own country. Anything else is a prelude to more wars.
I have also asked this numerous times but no one has ever given me an answer, in what way is it in Serbia's interest to keep Kosovo? Financially it makes no sense (not when 9 out of 10 people who live there would rather take arms than be in Serbia's rule again). So tell me, how is it in Serbia's interest?

What Russia really could do is to influence a recognition dynamics.
IMHO it would be ideal if Russia made KFOR responsible for their actions. KFOR didn't come to change Kosovo status, but to make people's lives better there, so KFOR should make possible for KSerbs to settle everywhere in Kosovo and feel at home there. KFOR failed to do it so far, but doesn't take any responsibility for its own misdoing.
For example if a worker signed up to build a house and that house broke later on, the worker is to pay a penalty, which is not the case with KFOR unfortunately.
I will not reveal more details of myself `cause UCK may trace me down...LOL, And one day I would maybe like to join OSCE or EULEX or some other int org - and help KiM Serbs who really need that... regarding Albanians`fieces in Prizren - go and check this church http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/expos/expoprizren/en/epic2058.htm

I've heard from a Serb serving in Kosovo during the war that Muslim Albanians were by far the most hostile toward the Serbs, while non-Muslim Albanians and Muslim non-Albanians were not such hostile.

Why haven't you heard in the last 12 years about a UNSC Resolution with number 1244 which established an international civil presence in Kosovo called UNMIK, which said in Regulation no 3 of 1999:

All goods of any type destined exclusively for Kosovo are subject to a customs rate equal to ten percent (10%), for a transitional period, with the exception of the goods listed in Annex I, for which the custom rate equals zero percent.
All goods listed in Annex II, which are imported and destined exclusively for Kosovo, are subject to excise duties, as indicated in that Annex. Such excise duties shall, for administrative reasons, be collected at the border posts."
“We must not say we won’t go to war over Kosovo”. That is one of the reasons why Serbia is not ready to join the EU or have a candidacy status. Serbia's polititians are full of talks....as for Thaci he is never affraid in fighting for Kosovo. He has proven himself.

Serbia has lost many wars in it's history what makes them think that they could ever go against the NATO trained Kosovo Army. Kosovo will never be part of Serbis ever again. No recognition of Kosovo independence no exceptance into Europe regardless of what your so called politicians say...

Sorry, you got it all wrong. I do not know the identity of the soldier aka exkfor, but he mention the former UNMIK Police station commander in Zubin Potok, which I happened to know him very well, including his every single assignment while in Kosova.

War is never a good option for anyone. If Serbs go to war, they will do so only if there is no other option. Serbia has lost a lot due to war. However, the people in the North of Kosovo do not want to be part of an independent Kosovo and it is Serbia's right to protect them. The negotiations at this point are a farce. They are actually intended only to have Serbia capitulate to the EU's desires. I see nothing resulting from these negotiations that supports any single Serbian desire. Thus they are not and should not be called negotiations. Unfortunately, the only thing the Western countries understand is force. They pretend they are civilized but if you look at how England, Germany, and other Western powers have achieved their aims thus far, it's always been through the use of force. When Serbia tries to negotiate peacefully, it gets them nowhere. Indeed they look weak and are treated as weaklings. So, although undesirable, war may be an option.
Dacic vividly reminds us that he after all member of the Milosevic party and couldn't have made it clearer that, literally, nothing has changed in Serbia, besides some faces. With that, EU must reject on the 9th of December even candidacy. Warmongery has no place in civilized Europe.
Now we know what kind of game the Serbs are playing against us with their Moscow allies. They just pay lip service to Europe about peace and cooperation but they dont give a damn either way. If Europe betrays us and dont intervene if we are attacked, hey-theres always the Middle East and our Islamic roots. We switched allies before and do it again as needed.
Many here comment that it is weakness from NATO and the US that will put Kosovo back into the hands of Serbia. But not everyone in the US loves NATO or thinks the Albanian separatists deserve independence in Kosovo. The US can no longer blindly sit by while Albanians cry wolf in Kosovo. We've got too many here making life miserable for us.
We should give Bondsteel to the Serbs, apologize to them, and wash our hands of the Albanians and their lies. The Albanians should be then grateful, the Serbs will give them more than we ever would, more than they deserve.

While the whole talk of war is absolutely mind boggling. I find your comment particularly amusing, coming from those who CRY ethnic cleansing every time a little old Albanian lady throws a small stone at a bus of Serbs.
Unfortunately, I see the war options inevitable. The big losers from the war will be people of northern Kosovo and Mitrovica. Serbs government, by supporting Serbs of Kosovo to declare independence of Northern Kosovo are gaining political points as the elections are just one step away. In the war, Tadic and all government parties would gain some points from the massmedia and general Serbian population. At the same time, the war will give more points to Thaci government. Europe is getting tired of long negotiations that are not getting anywhere. By going to war, Europe would finalize the new borders on Kosovo. Its clear who is going to win the war, and the big losers would be Serbs of Kosovo that will be ethnically cleansed out of Kosovo. More of less a Krajina project will take place. Serbs are the one that are asking for this as it is clear that the will be no independence for 50,000 people of Northern Kosovo.

WOW... thats all i got to say. Albanians actually THINK they can beat Serbia? When it was NATO against Serbia, day 77 of the Bombing, where were the KLA? I just googled the news from that day. Look it up, Serbia was in TOTAL control of Kosovo and not only that it actually went INSIDE of ALBANIA proper and attacked KLA bases operating inside of it. Serbia only withdrew from Kosovo AFTER Nato agreed (and did not keep their word btw) that Serbia's borders will be GUARANTEED and that Serbian army and border patrols will return to Kosovo as soon as the situation stabilized and 800,000 Albos could come out of their tents and come back to Serbia and live in an AUTONOMOUS province.
Back then, none of Serbia's allies could protect us. They were in need of help themselves. Today? Its a different world we live in. Our allies are stronger, and our enemies are weaker. The day will come when Serbia in co-operation with its TRUE allies, will get the go ahead to UNDO what the West tried to take (military base, & minerals). Serbia will not need any help in destroying its enemies (Albanians, and even Bosnians / Croats if they dare interfere). They would quickly find out why Serbia produces WORLD CLASS academics / athletes. I hate to admit it, but it just comes down to simple human genetics. Serbs have it, Albanians don't. Look at our history, Serbs have only ever been defeated when its 10+ against one, and even then the enemy will have to go through absolute HELL just to beat us (until we come back to attack them again, in which case they leave for good).

No, my eyes got open within 1 month while I still had 5 months left on my country`s taxpayers payroll - KFOR is not an employer. I expressed my dissent openly and it was based on biased behvaiour of KFOR towards Serbs,so did many of us, BUT this was politically incorrect!!! And believe me , majority of troops attitude was that the better solution would have been to let Serb forces to come back and deal with those "poor" Albanians - what they saw was completely another world - nth like European but rather dirty muslim country backyard, everyone was stunned how could people live like that, reproduce and at the same time live in poverty, allow to build uncountable number of new mosques - even if this money came from SA. rather stopm their chest about their "historical roots" than work and educate themselves...
I served with italian troops too and they did not like Albanian criminality - might be out of resentment that their own mafia was being turned underdog in Italy. I saw how at Italian MSU parties Albanian girls were trying to sell themselves off to foreign troops with the only goal to escape KiM...
about trying to defend your land, for sake of objectivity - legally you steal others, unlike Albanian neoghbours - then stay there and build up your own economy and do not terrorise other europeans and americans - shootings or attempted terrosim in Finland, Germany, USA etc.

Russia always has defended KiM within Serbia. It stopped the Ahtisaari Plan being adopted. "Kosova" cannot join the UN because of the Russian (and Chinese) veto. It is all diplomatic at the moment but Russia has done more for KiM than the current sell-outs. They have been attempting to engineer "Kosova" independence through the EU but even that has failed.
This whole "Kosova" project is a joke. Look at Palestine, it has a seat at UNESCO. Why doesn't "Kosova" attempt the same? It is fairly clear actually, there just isn't enough international support. Any kind of vote at the UN has been fiercely avoided presumably to hide the truth about this stillbirth "nation".
Anyway, you belong with the sell-outs. Your attempt at "negotiations" has been shown to be a fraud and that is a real shame because this was the greatest opportunity to bring lasting peace to the region. The West just can't help being the egotistical bully that it is. Must be in its nature, which will be its undoing.
He learnt that from his mentor - principles do not exist in politics, only power. I won't argue with that, but I certainly will not support cynical, lying politicians.

Russia has nothing to reverse because Kosovo is NOT independent. If it were, it would have no trouble getting a seat in the UN, being able to participate in more events than just Miss World and would not need UN to hold any negotiations with anyone in their name.
So you see, Russia has nothing to reverse. And the reason for this is precisely that, Russia is supporting Serbia and has made it possible that Serbia has not lost Kosovo.
It's clear that you would give up Kosovo and probably whatever else is necessary to become an EU member. I am guessing you are either going to vote for Cedo or keep the current government in power.
Many here comment that it is weakness from NATO and the US that will put Kosovo back into the hands of Serbia. But not everyone in the US loves NATO or thinks the Albanian separatists deserve independence in Kosovo. The US can no longer blindly sit by while Albanians cry wolf in Kosovo. We've got too many here making life miserable for us.
We should give Bondsteel to the Serbs, apologize to them, and wash our hands of the Albanians and their lies. The Albanians should be then grateful, the Serbs will give them more than we ever would, more than they deserve.

The really great thing about America is people are free to think whatever, it makes no difference whether it makes sense, or is true. But thank goodness there are not many who think like you do. Since returning to the US in 2009 from Kosovo I have had many conversations with people about the US involvement in Kosovo, and I have heard many different opinions on what our role in the balkans should be but I have never had anyone actually tell me that they thought we should apologize to the Serbs.
A lot of people think that we can not be the policemen of the world and alot think we should not. I have heard that we should not be involved because they think it does not affect us but I have never heard them say the cause was wrong.

The US is actively supporting Georgia but that didn't help its claim to Ab and SO did it? In fact, it made it worse as Russia and some other countries have recognised them as independent. They even have their own army, which is more than "Kosova" has but not even I would claim either Ab or SO are independent. Russia is at the correct distance for the moment. Any closer and it would have a negative effect on KiM, just like the US has had on Ab and SO.

Do you think they were prostitutes or something? Did they not 'sell' themselves to you and you suffer from jealousy? You see, when you write things like that, you immediately give an insight into your psyche and you either have some sort of ideal about women in general or the more likely bit, you're not very good with them. Do you think women in the west who go to disco's are selling themselves too?

As far as Kosovo is concerned I don't deal in theoreticals. We can argue legalities all day and night. However, its the facts on the ground that make the difference. Most of Kosovo is independent of Serbia, yes. There are no Serbs living there, no Serbian institutions there, no Serbian government influence there and throughout Kosovo, thanks to Milosevic, no Serbian army there and plenty of foreign troops there. Its also a fact that parts of North Kosovo are effectively under Serbian control.
Now if you want to go on pretending about it then I suggest travelling throughout Kosovo to see for yourself. And I don't mean just a brief visit to Decani and Mitrovica.

I agree with your statement Ivan. We need to ditch the whole idea of joining EU in order to make our economy better. All we need to do is take back Kosovo and we can start new talks with Russian and Chinese companies to establish mining and oil camps since this is covered all over kosovo and the only reason why USA is even there. Serbia's economy will increase largely and it will create more jobs for Serbs.
This type of article is the mentality that everyone needs to have, its because of the Serbs in kosovo for not giving up and defending the barricades that has given Serbs in Belgrade hope and courage.
Lastly, if a war is to happen, and once the albos get crushed, Albanians that want to live in Kosovo will have to agree with Serbia's terms and if not go back to Albania if you do not like it. Its pretty simple..
I've always loved this line of argument 'Albanians do not want a compromise'. What compromise is Serbia offering? None. It wants Kosovo, but not the people. I have to say this and will not hold back now, ordinary Serbs do not want Albanians to be equal citizens, because that is what keeping Kosovo means. It means Albanians get the right to vote in elections, get the right to be in Serbia's government, get the right to veto laws etc.Most Serbs still point blank refuse to accept that Albanians had any legitimate grievances. In fact, most of them still say things like 'go back to Albania'. With viewpoints like those, what is there to compromise on? Nothing. The solution has already been found, Kosovo is its own country. Anything else is a prelude to more wars.
I have also asked this numerous times but no one has ever given me an answer, in what way is it in Serbia's interest to keep Kosovo? Peggy I just explained to Zoran about the reality on the ground. There is no diplomacy that can change that. Thats why the only option left is a compromise.
We already had a war, that is what put us in this position in the first place. The mistake of not negotiating lost us control of the vast majority of Kosovo. Is there no lesson to be learned here?
Besides, there is no apetite for war in Serbia. We had a decade of war in the 1990's and that period is gone and good riddance to it.
The Albanians don't want a compromise? Well the only thing is to channel all of our efforts in making sure they do. This involves actually reaching out to Kosovo Albanians directly, over the heads of their politicians. Our politicians (because they are scared of being accused of treachery by the right) are too afraid and unimaginative to do this. It also involves finding a willing Kosovo Albanian political partner. Its possible that preliminary talks of this nature are already going on unofficially.
More difficult situations than Kosovo have been solved in history. These negotiations are not achieving much, Serbs and Albanians would agree on that front and one of the main reasons is because we are both being pushed into it rather than genuinely supporting negotiations ourselves.
There is always a way Peggy, just because Serb and Albanian leaderships are too backward and cowardly to do this now, does not mean we are doomed and it does not mean we should go to war.
I think Tadic would agree to recognize Kosovo if Serbia gets northen Kosovo and probably Southern Serbian enclaves. But Prishtina and the West are against it.
In light of the proof or allegations that Kosovar-Serbs are "victims" of "reverse" discrimination or oppression by SOME of their Albanian counterparts(of course I'm referring to Kosovar-Albanians) isn't there like some grave concern that if Serbia commences war against Kosovar-Albanians that some Albanians (even the civilians) will feel so disgruntled or something that they might decide to "take it out" on ethnic Serb civilians?,especially,if they realize or feel that the Serb army is gaining the "upper hand." It is stated that back in 1999 that after Serb forces withdrew after NATO's intervention in the Kosovar conflict that some ethnic Albanian refugees who returned to Kosovo wreaked vengeance against Serb civilians by looting and burning their homes,murdering elderly civilians where it got so bad that some or many Serbs have fled never to return.(The source of this information are stuff I'm paraphrasing from a biography of Milosevic written by Adam LeBor.) Doesn't Dadic wish to view the "big picture"(if you will) of what the consequences or repercussions can be in the event he issues a declaration of war?
Even if the Serb army is more sophisticated than the Kosovar Liberation Army( if that name is still in existence) can such a factor honestly guarantee victory for the Serb army? I'm venturing the possibility that some Albanians have formed the mentality that as long as the '"Albanian man" doesn't back down that he may stand a chance to vanquish his foes,adversaries,etc.' Finally and in the event Dadic declares war against ethnic Albanians and if (only if) there are Albanians who'd enlist in the Serb army then if would be my opinion (and possibly some others as well) that such Albanians would be "treacherous idiots" to join the Serb army for such a purpose so therefore it wouldn't bother me if the Serb army and POTENTIAL Albanians who are traitors to their compatriots end up being vanquished.

You say Russia cannot reverse independence. What independence? How on earth are they independent? They are just dumb muscle for the west. They do the dirty work like killing Serbs and destroying everything Serbian in Kosovo until there is nothing left but they don't have independence. They are on a tight leash and governed by the US.

My dear Peggy; the point is they are independent from Serbia and Serbia is not in charge in Kosovo (even Serbia agrees with that).
On the rest, let's assume you are right and they are in a tight leash and governed by US/EU/UNMIK/EULEX/NATO/Devil. KAlbs are fine with that vs. the past when they were governed by Serbia. And Serbia has done nothing in the past few years to rank higher in the preference order compared to US/EU/UNMIK/EULEX/NATO/Devil.
It really does not matter to me if your practicing or not, you have decreed to choose sides based on Bronze Age books. that's absolutely fine, do not make up stories however about having been in KFOR, and having seen Albanian women do this and do that. thats just sad

Why haven't you heard in the last 12 years about a UNSC Resolution with number 1244 which established an international civil presence in Kosovo called UNMIK, which said in Regulation no 3 of 1999:
"The Special Representative of the Secretary-General,
Pursuant to the authority given to him under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999) of 10 June 1999,
Taking into account United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Regulation No. 1999/1 of 25 July 1999 on the Authority of the Interim Administration in Kosovo,
For the purpose of establishing customs and other related services at the inland customs houses and international borders of Kosovo,
Hereby promulgates the following:
All goods of any type destined exclusively for Kosovo are subject to a customs rate equal to ten percent (10%), for a transitional period, with the exception of the goods listed in Annex I, for which the custom rate equals zero percent.
All goods listed in Annex II, which are imported and destined exclusively for Kosovo, are subject to excise duties, as indicated in that Annex. Such excise duties shall, for administrative reasons, be collected at the border posts."

yeah ok, Albanians could say the same, so what's your point? Kosovo belongs to its people, and in this day and age you CANNOT get it back. Any attempt to get it back will simply not succeed.

Peggy I haven't decided who I will vote for yet. I don't know if the Green Party will decide to field candidates - it has been more active of late. I might vote for them. God knows we haven't much of a choice here.
Its not clear that I would give up Kosovo. I would state that if it were the case, that would be clear. Its clear that I have supported and always supported a compromise solution. I might add that I supported a compromise when the majority of political parties in Serbia and their supporters in the diaspora supported going to war in Kosovo.
That policy by the way (and all those who supported it by extension) are responsible for what transpired afterwards. I'm talking about before Ramboullet, so lets not go over old ground. We had many months preceeding an all out blow out in Kosovo, to do a deal with Rugova. After that our troops were forced out from Kosovo as we signed a deal ceding control of Kosovo to US and international troops.
So I most vigorously refuse responsiblity for the current situation in Kosovo and that I would give it away. On the contrary, Milosevic almost gave Kosovo away, together with those that supported his Kosovo policy. Those of us not reponsible for that have been fighting a rear guard action ever since their mistake.
And as you know I have spent too much time urging Albanians here (and elsewhere) to come to table.
Also and I've said this many times as well, EU membership is not an answer to our ills. Economic growth, the fight against corruption, reduction in unemployment, health system, (chaotic) transport system. These are the issues that face us every single day of our lives. If we can do that better staying out of the EU, then lets not join the EU!

I think you are wrong... Obviously you've not seen the brilliant economic and financial analysis of B92 Forums' CE sj. According to Malaysia-based sj's predictions (which have always been correct) Europe is not enjoying but is close to collapse and Europe people are emmigrating to China in mass.
There is zero doubt in my mind, that not only were you not part of KFOR, you have never EVER been in Kosovo. that though is something else. what i am dealing with here is a man of extreme ideology, in short, the Christian version of the Taliban. What Russia really could do is to influence a recognition dynamics.
IMHO it would be ideal if Russia made KFOR responsible for their actions. KFOR didn't come to change Kosovo status, but to make people's lives better there, so KFOR should make possible for KSerbs to settle everywhere in Kosovo and feel at home there. KFOR failed to do it so far, but doesn't take any responsibility for its own misdoing.
For example if a worker signed up to build a house and that house broke later on, the worker is to pay a penalty, which is not the case with KFOR unfortunately.
What I have read, Muslim Albanians treated during the war Christian Albanians in Kosovo with prejudice as they were suspected to be rather pro-Serb - they did not join UCK en masse and Serb forces in general did not bothered them either

I've heard from a Serb serving in Kosovo during the war that Muslim Albanians were by far the most hostile toward the Serbs, while non-Muslim Albanians and Muslim non-Albanians were not such hostile.
