"Lack of investments in education lowers the living standard and makes it more difficult for people to find employment, said the president.

It is extremely important for the higher education system to suit the needs of the economy and stimulate employment, because that speeds up development, he stressed.

"Academic education and science are among the key driving forces behind our civilization's development, and those societies that invest in education and science have a chance of reaching the highest level of development and technological achievements," Tadić stated."

Maybe Tadic can take the time to explain this to the teachers who tried to explain the dire lack of investment in their skills and profession. I generally admire the approach that Tadic takes and consider him to be a very able and intelligent President. However, I feel he needs to think more carefully before he makes comments about the worth of education that are completely at odds with the reality in Belgrade. Lets hope he does the right thing and addresses the profound underpayment of his country's teachers.
