Comment to The poetry of Europe:

An Irish Bedtime Story for all Nice Children and not so Maastricht Adults

http://ceolas.net/#eu7x

The Happy Family
Once upon a time there was a family treaty-ing themselves to a visit in Lisbon.
On the sunny day that it was they decided to go out together.
Everyone had to agree on what they would do.
"So", said Daddy Brusselsprout "Let's all go for a picnic!"
"No", said Aunt Erin, "I don't want to".
Did they then think of something else, that they might indeed agree on?
Oh yes they did?
Oh no they didn't!
Daddy Brusselsprout asked all the others anyway, isolating Erin, and then asked her if instead, she would like to go with them to
the park and eat out of a lunch basket....

Kids, we'll finish this story tomorrow, and remember, in the EU yes means yes and no means yes as well!

Mr. Ash there is absolutely no reason why the Irish people should vote Yes on ratifying the Lisbon Agreement.

Ireland is already in the European Union, so what is the point of this Lisbon Treaty? The point is to take a organization of states and turn it into a single entity. Europe may not be big geographically, but it has been through so much history, so much war and so much hatred that a Lisbon Treaty of forcefully grouping all European countries together is doomed to fail.

The nerve of these EU leaders like Sarkozy who threaten the Irish people for not voting the way he sees fit. One MP from the United Kingdom even once said that those who don't support ratification of the Lisbon Treaty suffer from mental illness.

Also sir, you said that the EU groups together "a commonwealth of democracies". Well democracy has played its part in Ireland. If the EU truly believes in democracy then why is it necessary for another vote on the Lisbon Treaty if it was already rejected? I understand, democracy only suites the leaders in the EU when it works in their favor. When it doesn't, more referendums and threats are soon followed.

I want it to be clear to anyone who reads my comment that I am not anti European or some Serbian ultra-nationalist who is against the EU because most of it's members bombed my country. I am commenting as a concerned European and nothing more. For the EU to truly work, it has to realize what are it's limitations and what is clearly unacceptable for some people, for most people. For the EU to work, it needs complete reform in it's government. New leaders have to be elected and the Lisbon Treaty has to be scrapped because a European Superstate is not in the interest of the European people.
