Nikola has said it all, I could not have said it better.

As some of you will know I have been saying for months that Nikolic should take control of SRS. It could not happen with Seselj and his hysterical supporters in SRS. Kostunica has completely lost his way. SNS is the future of the principled right in Serbia.

I do hope that Nikolic won't be too liberal on economic issues though, it is important to represent poorer in society, but to do it without the populism and lies we saw from SRS.

Let me just add that some close to LDP thinking are saying that SNS is the new terror on the Serbian political scene and say that Cosic, Crncevic and other nationalists who got close to Milosevic in the 90's are in the party or the ideological fathers. That may or may not be true, but the bigger picture is that this new party will be healthy for Serbian democracy.

How many times can we say that about a new political party in Serbia?

I believe in Tomislav Nikolic.

You know, over the past few weeks, I have spoken with many of my compatriots about the Nikolic-Seselj split. Most for obvious reasons would look at the statistics and say this has made the opposition weaker, and Boris Tadic even stronger. However I tend to disagree. This split might have been the best thing to happen to Serbia since the end of the Milosevic era.

What this split does, or what it can do is provide Serbia with a moderate, center-right party that can directly compete with the DS for votes. Vojislav Kostunica had that opportunity, and for many years he did fulfill that position. However, he became just like a member of the Radicals. Promises instead of plans, slogans instead of ideas, and hostility instead of compromise.

Now Nikolic can present Serbia with a new direction, but not a direction the public would be uncomfortable with. The SNS (Serbian Progressive Party) can promote Orthodox Christian, democratic and conservative values in Serbia without nationalistic slogans and remarks. Nikolic can be a economic liberal but a cultural conservative which I think most in Serbia will be attracted to.

Tomislav Nikolic was spot on with his remarks on Russia and Kosovo. There can be many things the EU would be attracted in when talking about Serbia. For example, signing the treaty with Russia which gave any automobiles Serbia imports to Russia will be taxed 30% less than all other countries. Russia is slated to have the most imports for automobiles in the world within the next 5-6 years. What happens next? Fiat buys 77% of Zastava and is ready to produce cars in Serbia. Volskwagoen, Mercedez-Benz and GM have also been in serious talks as well.

Also I tend to agree with the Kosovo statement. Prosperity solves everything. Everyone is happy as long as they are getting paid. For once I don't hear aggressive remarks about purging the Albanian separatists. Instead, I hear ways of investing into Kosovo&Metohija so that even Albanians will be interested in working in Serbian communities.

Now I always try to put minimal trust into a politician or a political party. However, Nikolic makes a lot of sense to me and I think he does to other members of the Serbian youth. If he stays away from corruption, and stays true to his beliefs, then the sky is the limit for Tomislav Nikolic and the Serbian Progressive Party.

Nikolic is right about the "big coaltition". The interviewer uses Germany as an example. But the better example would be Austria that has had big coalitions for a much longer time. They pay a high price: for many voters the mainstream parties have started to look all alike. Instead those discontent with the government are now voting for the extreme right.

If Serbia comes in a similar situation it should rather consider increasing the threshold for small parties to come in parliament.
