Serbia's path towards the EU is fixed, and negatively motivated politicians will not be able to keep Serbia out.

Standing up for its territory will increase respect for democratic Serbia, not reduce it.

Serbia will not be blackmailed into giving up its case - neither should it be by any competent EU politician.

The fact that any EU politician is threatening Serbia at all is because of the weakness of EULEX in the face of the perversions of law it represents.

The EU will admit Albania and Serbia at the same time and the Kosovar Albanians will take Albanian citizenship, Kosovar Serbs have are already Serbian citizens. The Kosovo issue will remain unresolved indefinitely, but Kosovo will function as a part of Albania. The Serbs might be brought around on the independence issue eventually because they might prefer an independent Kosovar state to an unofficial annexation by Albania.

Peggy,
Send us (US) all the aid you want. However, before you start that last laugh over the American demise, you might want to look at the strength of the dollar vs the Euro, Canadian Dollar, Russian Ruble, and Serbian Dinar as compared to 60 days ago.
When you have the Number 1 econcomy you can weather a storm a lot easier than those with less strong economies. Those with fledgling economies like Serbia are at the mercy of the rest of the world.

I think before anyone thinks of Western Balkan integration into the EU, they need to overcome the Irish veto to the Lisbon Treaty. Also, why should these countries be accepted at the same time when Serbia is far ahead of Kosovo developmentwise?

Is EU membership really all it's cracked up to be? Aslong as Serbia adopts EU principles and allows for easy intergration of EU ways, then there's really no problem. You're still the master of you own destiny without being tied to EU exploitation, PLUS you're able to control how involved you are with EU relations. Where's the downside in that?

Peggy

For all you Albanian supporters who seem to rejoice in the fact that no EU for Serbia until Kosovo issue resolved, just remember, the same condition is put on Kosovo.

Serbia can afford not to join at all, but what is Kosovo going to do? No world recognition and no investment due to this issue. Only charity from the US which is in a position to receive charity themselves now.

Who is going to have the last laugh here?

Everebody knowes that Serbia have to reconize Kosovo as an independent state to have chance to get into EU. This is no secret but serbs are brainwashing them self that this ain't a condition.

Thank you for the lovely comment that you send I agree with you.

Since Serbia will never recognise this fake puppet entity, Kosovo can only ever join the EU as a province of Serbia. As I am more than happy for Serbia to remain outside of the EU, I really don't mind impossible membership conditions put on us. Keep them coming - No Lisbon Treaty and No recognition.

It is becoming more and more clear that this government is following an EU carrot leading to nowhere while the EU seems increasingly desperate to revive something that is already dead.

Kostunica was right once again to put the Kosovo issue before EU membership.

Serbia was promised several times that the issue of Kosovo would not be tied to the road to EU. Now the true nature of EU is exposed again. Lies, lies and damned lies is all that's coming out of that institution.

Rocky not sure what you are talking about, apologies are not a condition. Any nation to enter the EU needs to ave good relations with its fellow members, lets not forget Germany slaughtered millions in the last war now they are one of the main nations in the EU. The EU will want to get Serbia into the EU has quick as possible, Serbia is seen as the main Balkan nation and ket to stability, only Holland stands in its way and that is only guilt for Bosnia.

What the EU will want is not for Serbia to recognise Kosovo but to co-operate with the EU mission. Dashnori lets not forget the terroist KLA attacked the Serbs first and the Serb military at the time served out justice, the KLA comitted crimes as well, trading in organs etc. The EU should apply caution when allowing muslim states into the EU the only reason its going to be allowed is for political reasons only.

"I would accept neither Serbia nor Kosovo as long as their relations were not resolved in a proper manner,"

This will never happend. Serbia will have to reconize Kosovo for this to happend. That's why the whole balkan will get in EU beside Serbia and Kosovo.

The reality that hurts for serbs is that Kosovo will stay independent. There is no turning back on this issue. The real question for Serbia is if they want to reconize Kosovo for the sake of an EU-entery. Unless there will be no Eu perspective for serbs and Serbia.

(snip)Kosova in EU 2009 (snip)
(snip)So i see Serbia in year 2155(snip)
(rocky, 5 October 2008 15:18)

It is somewhat pessimistic prognosing.
I am thinking about more realistic one:

1) Kosova in EU on Nov. 1, 2008 (for All Saint's Day, to commemorate the Serb victims of organ trade)
2) Kosova sends first man on Mars on April 1, 2009 - before America or Russia

As for Serbia...Kosova already moved it's capital to Belgrade, so it's a done deal - and long ago.

BTW: Congratulations to Kosova's president Quadriga Award he just received in Berlin, he deserved a lot of credit for good maneuvering your country under such difficult weather conditions.

Serbia ia nto ready for EU. Apology, a sincere one, and than compensation for what they have done. Serbs have been paid for the damaged churches and Serbs in Kosova pay no taxes.
