>> "Serbia will prevail, without the use of force, while the only way for the Albanians to take away serbian territory is through the use of force. "

You will not use force because you can't. Each time Serbia took Kosova, including 1190, it was through force. Read history books.

>> "Serbia is too strong, and in addition there is no Milosevic in Belgrade, as a justification for another military aggression against Serbia."

And so are the Albanians who now number 7 million in the Balkans and will have a NATO member next year. Serbian military is not in Kosova so for you to get it, you will have to attack. You do not want war.

The use of force should still be an option since the status quo of the province had never been changed.

But an ICJ ruling in favor of Serbia is an important victory.

Although growing at 6% last year, Albania is growing slower than other West Balkan countries as Serbia (8%), Bosnia (6,5%), Croatia (7%), and Macedonia (7%). Further, we are talking of a boycott of Kosovo, not Albania, so it's pretty irrelevant anyway.

And yes, a boycott of Kosovo will hurt Belgrade, because that will weaken Belgrades influence and presence in Kosovo. Kosovo is irrelevant in any logic economic sense, however. Especially since it's sluggish economy will now collapse in the global crisis.

And Kosovo will notbe a EU member anytime soon. Kosovo will be a EU protectorate, ruled and governed from Brussels. And K. Albanians will be restless about it as soon as they realize that Brussel is even further away than Belgrade, and grants even less influence. The reason so many EU countries agrees that Serbia must loose Kosovo at all cost is that they want Serbia within the EU, and Kosovo outside. This is also in Russias interest, so it will most likely happen, one way or the other.

The ICJ will hopefully prove a moral victory for Serbia, which will in turn tell certain powerful countries a lesson about the necessity of a functioning international legal system. Not that Kosovo will be Serbian again, but still an important victory.

Also, look forward to Belgrade plating a stronger future role in protecting Serbian heritage in Kosovo, and perhaps a reuniting between Northern Kosovo and Serbia. And no, there will be no presedense for Presevo or Zandsjak.

By 2012 Serbia will be well integrated with EU institutions, and a strategically important country mediating agreements between the EU and Russia, and with an economy recovering from the coming economic crash.

Kosovo will not be recovering well from the crash, and aid money will strengthen a corrupt dynastic rule. Brussels will take increasingly control of Kosovo's affairs, and the so-called independence will dwindle away, while rule of law will never have been further away. The economy will still be in shambles, and struggeling to absorb the influx of Albanians expelled from Western European countries, and the effect of reduced remittances from expats.

And by 2020, there will be less Serbs in Kosovo than ever. LAck of jobs, rule of law, and basic human rights will make sure that those who can will move somewhere else.

Occupation? 90-93% of the people living there see it as a liberation! Serbia's EU application will be frozen forever too in that case. I doubt Serbs want that

L*O*G*I*C - "With heroine sales going at $120,000/kg the Kosovar GDP should be up there in the $50,000." Looks like your comrades have more "logic" than you. I'm sure they are going to declare any black market earnings, to any relevant tax authorities!!!

BURIM REGAJ - "Mark my words by 2013 Kosova will be part of EU together with Serbia (if not before) as two separate sovereign countries. Like it or not." The EU constitution states that you have to be a UN member state to join the EU. If Serbia, via Russia, blocks any potential UN membership, how will you join the EU, especially as countries like Spain and Cyprus will block your entry.

Aside from replying to the above comments, i'll be very niterested to see who has the biggest stick at the UN, the US or Russia.

Like it or not, i don't think Serbia will win at the UN GA for it's request to go to the ICJ.

An embargo on Kosovar products by Serbia might actually prove to be beneficial, just as the embargo Russia placed on Georgian wines led to the Georgians being forced to find other markets and adjust to international standards.

being neglected by Serbs for 100 years takes a toll. But it's OK. Albania is growing by 6% each year. 6, http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/feedarticle/7787501

And that before major investments are to pour in to develop the coast (property laws are holding it)

If Serbs embargo (i.e don't sell to) Kosova, FYROM and Albanians will. Albania has 2 ports to get the materials from.

The only things it exports are heroine and enslaved women! An embargo placed on Kosovo would be beneficial for the whole of Europe.

If heroine is the main export (untrue: metals), than why is the Kosovar GDP the lowest in EUROPE? With heroine sales going at $120,000/kg the Kosovar GDP should be up there in the $50,000. If you could please pick up a book or a newspaper you would read the last 6 months the only news of heroine busts found is trade connections going from Serbia into it's neighbors; none involving Albanians or Kosovars. Please provide more researched and analytical comments

To Mike Hunt;
as you may know all the illegal activities have their source at the border crossings in northern Kosova where KPS does not have any hand. it is true Kosova's exports are non-existent but it seems to me that by imposing sanctions to Kosova to the import coming through North from Serbia proper would benefit the western EU and hurt Serbia, Moldova, Russia, Bellarus, and Ukraine.
Mark my words by 2013 Kosova will be part of EU together with Serbia (if not before) as two separate sovereign countries. Like it or not.
