EU to suspend funds to Bulgaria

In an unprecedented move, the EC is set to block two Bulgarian agencies from using EU funds worth hundreds of millions of euros.

The EU is finally taking the appropriate action to encourage the few Bulgarian government officials who are honest to take all actions necessary to defeat this pandemic that infects almost every aspect of Bulgarian life. As an outside observer familiar with Bulgarian government and business practices, I do not believe the current government leaders have enough courage or integrity to defeat this menace. Unfortunately, corruption is endemic to Bulgarian society. Independent studies and surveys report that the majority of the people in Bulgaria EXPECT their elected leaders, bureaucrats, police, customs agents, judges, prosecuters, and even professors to be corrupt. When a society expects their government to be corrupt - it will be exactly that. History tells us there are only two ways to correct the situation: (1) The people get disgusted and vote out all the corrupt leaders and demand their replacements enact laws, enforce the laws, and appoint only honest capable administrators, prosecuters, judges, and police. (2) Popular revolution led by courageous people of integrity who change the society. Which will it be for Bulgaria? The world and Europe will be watching...
