Djukanovic & Co. would recognize long ago, as they are told by US, if they were not afraid of consequences. Such an act could easely become political suicide for them, as it would enrage a big part of Monte Negro polpulation, people who didn't forget who they are.

And Montenegro is under no pressure. Ha ha, what a joke.

Lets see if the US can pay off the Montenegran government to stab its brother in the back.

And lets see what consequences that brings.

Everyone knows that CG is under intense diplomatic pressure as we speak to recognise Pristina's UDD, even the dogs on Podgorica's street now that.

In fact even as we speak the US is applying pressure to other nations accross the globe their recognise Disneyland. Just take a look at this snippet from Bangladesh. http://bdnews24.com/details.php?id=56458&cid=2

Take a look at the 3rd paragraph, tells alot doesnt it. It seems that the recognitions having dried up, Washington has resorted to strong arm bully boy tactics of old.

We all knew that, but then again, ask any dog on the hot dusty streets of Podgorica and he will bark the same.

"On Feb. 17 Kosovo Albanians unilaterally declared independence of the province. Belgrade has rejected the declaration and its recognitions as illegal."

Soon, i think, most normal countries (and people) will have recognized the Republic of Kosova. But serbia and B-92 will continue to hold out :))

Louie,

I have to admit, my friend. . .really nice post.

Now to answer your question: "why not?"

Well. . .because Montenegrins are in fact the most vicious of the Serbian sects.

But you already knew this.

So why would Montenegrins that share
* the Orthodox culture of their Serb brothers
* the history of persecution by the moslem invaders

. . .willfully agree to acknowledge the theft of a territory that represents - in part - their own identity to people that seek to destroy it?

No doubt that Washington's morally-corrupt Djukanovic was promised untold wealth if he pulled the trigger on recognizing this monstrosity that you call "kosova". . .but even he understands the consequences of that action.

Hence the reluctance to do so.

Montenegro,what a fantastic country!
I have many Montenegrin friends and just I want Montenegro to progress!
It will be very difficult for them to recognise Kosovo as a newest country in the World, but when the time is right, why not!!!
Guys,we are living in the year 2008,please please no more wars,no more negative thinking!!!
Recently I met a new Montenegrin friend in my coffee shop.We never talk about politics. We both complain about Pound being weak against Euro and how expensive life has become in London.Sometimes we speak Serbo-Croatian,sometimes English and he speaks few Albanian words!
My wish is that Serbs do the same.Think about future, think about what is the best for your children!
Time is to forgive and concentrate about the future!!!
Never forget the Past, but never let the Past to dictate the future!!!
Ziveli my lovely neighbours and friends!
Gezuar and Cheers!

What you said about Ulcin is 100% true. This won't last for long..this year my whole entire family decide to head out to Durres and Tirana; they said it was absolutely amazing. Albania is moving up with its' tourism and I only see better cooperation between the two countires of Albania and Kosova.

"wants these countries to have exceptional and outstanding relations"...said he.
What is the logic behind all this?
Hope that you can brutally force out 'outstanding relations'?
Hope that by humiliation you can bring love & peace?
We've read yesterday in Deutche Welle that Podgorica plans to recognize Kosovo UDI.
What this will bring is a total cool-down of Serbia-Montenegro relations.

We all have to suffer because USA needs Albanians to keep prisoners camps on their territory, for the camp Bondsteel, etc.

USA and British hypocrites!

Interesting that an american ambassador knows whats best for Montenegro, to have " exceptional and outstanding relations" with their neighbours.

Let me tell you this Mr ambassador, first improve your own relations with your neigbour country Cuba so you can have " exceptional and outstanding relations" with them.
THEN you can come to the balkans and dictate for other states..

montenegro and kosovo are in opposite poles. one example is the summer season. albanians only go to ulcin and nobody or only few go to budva and other serbian dominated towns for holiday. you notice KS vehicles mushrooming in ulqin and very rare you see then in budva and other places.
