To Carlos, the Portuguese who knows Balkans so well and is against the UDI:
I have tried, unsuccessfully, to draw attention to two critical facts regarding the Kosova question:
1-for the first time in the history Kosova figured inside the political map of the Serbian state in 1912 and never before;
2- Until 1912 Serbia had its General Consulate in Pristina.

If the above is true and nobody (as of today)can prove it's a wrong statement, isn't it the right time for Serbia to RE-OPEN the GENERAL CONSULATE or better its Embassy in Pristina???

RE: Failure to learn from recent History.

Czechoslovakia was ripped apart in 1938 by Hitler and his henchman while England, France, et al idly watched.

It is disgraceful, disgusting that the current Czech government is witnessing the rape of Kosovo from Serbia and based on their history would yield to American and European pressure to regonize a false state. Prime Minister Benes who bravely stood up againt Hitler must be turning in his grave and the current political government has brought shame to the Czech people.

It is ironic that Slovakia sided with Admiral Horthy of Hungary and Adolf Hitler in breaking away from Czechoslovakia in 1938 but today will not support the illegal state of Kosovo. At least Slovakian people and government have learned the lessons of the past.

Well, I have been reading Portuguese newspapers. It's true that most readers providing comments to news about Kosovo are indeed against Kosovar independence. But I also note that most commentators demonstrate very poor, if any, knowledge of the circumstances that led to Kosovo's independence. As a Portuguese who's followed this issue for years, I clearly see Kosovo's independence as the only solution for a situation that, if it depended on Serbia, would remain unsolved for eternity. Besides, Serbia missed its opportunity to negotiate the partition of Kosovo and keep Serb-majority areas. By refusing to let go a single inch of Kosovo, Serbs lost it all. Quite a lesson that is yet to be learned by Serbia. I will enthusiastically welcome Portugal's decision to recognize Kosovo as an independent state.
(Johnny, 23 May 2008 04:03)
Johnny,
You have a very typical Portuguese name! I’m sure you are not reading the right newspapers! Maybe you have been reading Correio da Manhã or 24 Horas… Since I know very well the Balkans, believe me the main newspapers have commentators with very deep knowledge about the region.

I am really sad about this, it shows that Checzh politicians (not people) really doesn't have any soul at all.
Have they forgot what the Nazis did to them by occupying the Sudentenland in 1938??? Now exactly 70 years later they are doing the same to Serbia, SHAME ON YOU Checzh politicians!

Sergei, I agree with you. Why not talking about the Sudeten? In fact the division of former Yugoslavia and specially of Serbia mutilated in favor of greater Albania that emerges more and more clear today is similar to the division of Balkans which happened in 1941... It requires to be completed only the division of Macedonia in the Albanian and the Slav parts...

It's pathetic how predictable this is becoming! Some facetious entity will inevitably resort to offensive generalizations! But luciano, to try and capitalize using such a tragic issue for such an unrelated debate is very low indeed!

Attaching national, racial, religious or ethnic exclusivity to crime is naïve at best and malicious at worst.

Albanian crime clans are “good at what they do” but they’re certainly not the only ones. How do you think they purchase (apologies for the awful choice of words) their slaves so someone in Western Europe can buy them for €3k? You probably have a good idea about that too, but you’re not really interested in a well-meaning debate on trafficking and prostitution. All you’re interested in is depicting Albanians as pimps and criminals in a completely different debate, conveniently focusing on only one stage of this horrible process.

If you were genuinely interested on this issue, you would have not ignored the fact that these poor victims are generally bought for less than €3k from the native (Czech, Ukrainian, Moldovan, Lithuanian…) pimps / traffickers, who in turn threaten these poor girls’ families if they don’t do as they’re told. You also conveniently avoid the fact that modern slave trading would have not been such a big problem if there wasn’t a demand for it by the paying customers in these girls’ final destinations.

INCREDIBLE indeed!

Cheshka recognising, its sad! However there is some good in this. Now the so-called Albanian asylum-seekers and their criminal tendencies will be shipped off to Kosovo but the plus is that they wont be going to the North. They will reside with their remaining bretheren and fight it out for control of the turf. Naturally in the process, "the protectorate" will further descend into chaos. I just can't wait for regular potshots at NATO troops. The 'liberated' always turn on their 'liberators'

Needless to say i won't be buying the skoda until the decision is reversed. Do the Spaniards make a car?

To Carlos, the Portuguese who knows Balkans so well and is against the UDI:
I have tried, unsuccessfully, to draw attention to two critical facts regarding the Kosova question:
1-for the first time in the history Kosova figured inside the political map of the Serbian state in 1912 and never before;
2- Until 1912 Serbia had its General Consulate in Pristina.

If the above is true and nobody (as of today)can prove it's a wrong statement, isn't it the right time for Serbia to RE-OPEN the GENERAL CONSULATE or better its Embassy in Pristina???

The large majority of Czechs are either against or indifferent to the existence Kosovo as a sovereign state. However, the Czech government wants visa free travel with the US and this is the main reason it has chosen to go ahead and recognize something which is irrelevant to the Czech people. This goes to show that states have interests and not really friends. The Czechs have much more in common with Serbs than with Albanians or even Germans for that matter but this does not prevent them from being in an econmoic union with the latter because it is in Czechia's INTEREST to do so.Furthermore, the Czechs are eager to have a place to deport the Albanian criminals and illegal aliens who are causing a lot of fear and crime in Prague and want to prevent Czech girls from being trafficed by the Albanian pimps. Is it true that I heard I could buy a woman for 3k euros from Albanian pimps in Europe?INCREDIBLE

Tens of thousands of Albanians are claiming political asylum in Western countries(mainly the ones who have recognized the UDI)claiming Serb oppression. If these countries recognize Kosovo independence then the government in Pristina is forced to accept them back even though all of the asylum seekers prefer life anywhere but Kosovo.Furthermore, there are thousands of Albanian criminals due to be released from Western jails and ready for deportation back to an independent Kosovo and not into Serb jails.Czech women volunteer to be raped beaten and sold by Albanian pimps like the cases in Britain recently?Does this comment deserve a response?

Prague wants to prevent Czech girls from being trafficked by Albanian pimps?!!!!! … by recognizing Kosovo? How that can happen? If girls want to be trafficked what government can do about it? Do those governments of those countries have to recognize Kosovo to solve that “emigration” problem? Your argument is very week.
I think that you offended either Czech government or Czech girls. Neither one deserves this, and has anything with Kosovo. Kosovo is a reality and if you protect or not some self-employed prostitutes has nothing to do with foreign politic.

Otherwise: feel free to travel to Prague and enjoy the "welcome"... if you can get visa, that is.

BTW: have no idea why, but the number of approved U.S. visas pro number of applications is much higher in Belgrade than in Tirana. So much about the reality of American friendship. Good news: Albanians do not need a visa in order to go to the bathroom (yet). Thank you, bathroom!

I am so pleased by this development that i won't even complain about the usual anti-albanian hate speech (those albanian pimps, bla bla bla) or the way b92 phrases the story, like a typical nationalist media outlet (the UDI of the albanians...) you know it is true and may god strike me down this minute if i am lying!)

as i wrote a few days ago, most czechs have a basic and visceral understanding of the value of democracy and independence, sandwiched as they have been by the soviet communists and nazis... so many war crimes in that land which will never come to light and be adjudicated, but that is someone else's responsibility, i am a bit too busy.

Re: #17

Sergei, I agree with you. Why not talking about the Sudeten? In fact the division of former Yugoslavia and specially of Serbia mutilated in favor of greater Albania that emerges more and more clear today is similar to the division of Balkans which happened in 1941... Maybe it is a signal to the political forces in Serbia. Maybe not all the countries recognized the independence from the beginning in order to try to influence Serbian politics. Maybe the arab countries or the spanish countries recognitions are being delayed on purpose.
Or maybe the conspirative mindset of some commenters here got me.

Luciano, if you deport criminals from prison to their country, they will be back in your country in two weeks, it would be like freeing them. You should protest with your police about criminals or with the Albanian or Kosovo embassy if they are Albanian.
