The change was mandatory according to Russian Constitution because it doesn’t allow more then two consecutive mandate for a President. So, Putin did the trick and elected Medvedev as “President” to be himself as PM. By being elected as PM there is no legal problem for Putin to be PM of Russia for 44 years when he reaches 100 years old, if he can.
After 2-3 years in PM chair Putin will “realize” that Russian Constitution doesn’t reflect the reality in Russian politician life and will “force” changes in Constitution to give more power to PM and leave President Position as ceremonial “unity of country”.
After 9 years when Rote Cappela’s younger daughter will reach 18 and will vote, most likely she will be happy because will realize that being PM is more important then being President.

My dear soviet friend! Compared to the "davai tchas" occupation the turkish empire was a true democracy! Until now Serbia still had no chance to enjoy your "friendship". After the next four years they will "love" you as we do.

Joe !
I have two things to add :
1. Those Hungarians you are talking of could be sentenced for 10 years as military criminals and among several other millions worked to rebiuld what they had destroyed. If so then I can accept this figures. It's a pity not all of them were back. Concerning the contribution as far as I remember they were obliged to pay some 300 mln DM but really payed only 100 of them.
2. Putin is not a dictator in the traditional meaning of the word. Yet most of us believe that for the time being we cannot afford democracy in the Western meaning of the word. It will give you a chance to find another Eltsin to bring disaster with your Chicago boys as adwicers. So Putin is nothing worse than tens of your strategic pertners in S.Arabia, Kuwait,Georgia, Ukraine, Iraq, fghanistan , Kosovo ect.
By the way I too have questions about the US democracy but it's too late now so I go to sleep.
Regards !

Joe, 8 May
Shalom Aleihem !
Why should you worry about Hungarians ? As a Jew you and your children should always pray for us. As far as I know Israel to celebrate it's 60-th anniversary never makes any compromise over everything concerning WW2. Besides I know a lot of real Hungarians and none of them told me such fantasies as you do. They mostly complain of 1956 when we stopped the started civil war there. Those were different times with another logic ...
It's good that you are still proud to have a Greencard or are even a passport holder. But before you go abroad they will tell you to hide your passport as deep as you can. For your own sake ! This is what respect the mighty Yank have outside.
Besides Joe it's not the Russians that you can scare with your might. Our doctrine is based on a guaranteed and simultaneous annihilation of all potential enemies. So if you mean it I don't care this might.
Joe as a Jew you cannot be utmost loyal to any state you live if it's not Israel. So I can tell you that you will not find a politician there whose brains can be compared with those of Putin. If you put on left scales Bush's brains and throw at the right the one's of Putin's those of Bush will go to the open space. My regrets !
One of the reasons I never voted for Putin was that he never explained why do we keep our money in the hands of our potential enemy. Plus there were 20 other reasons. But in general he tributed much to let me tell you today that I don't care of your might. And this I respect. Today he said that Russia starts massive investments abroad. Hopefully in more friendly countries.
The last thing to tell you is that Russians do not have anything against ordinary Americans. All our protests are agaist the elite. We see no difference between the Candidates for all of them are bad for Russia. Russians have historical problems with quite few nations like Poles ,Brits and Turks but no more. All the rest may be our friends if only they wish to.

Rote Kapella,
I responded to you with valuable info a while ago. I hope you can see it shortly.

I feel that United Russia will not undergo any reforms when it comes to their approach and to their policy. This means that the economy will continue to go up, Russia will continue to exert their influence on anti-Western states, but at the same time I doubt the average Russian will feel the difference. They need to redistribute the wealth of the country, because apparently the polarization between cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg compared to regions in Southern and Far Eastern Russia is obscene, not unlike that of countries like Brazil or South Africa. This they must work on first and foremost. Russia has enough oil and gas oligarchs, now it's time for the average Russian to finally benefit from life.
pre 18 godina
Rote Kapella,
Nice to see a compassionate Russian, even if his compassion looks very condescending. You might think I am from a small country like Latvia or Estonia (even those would not need your compassion) but guess what?...I am citizen of the mighty US.
And some further info to burst your bobbles. As a child I grew up in Hungary on the border with Zakarpatske Oblast so I know first hand who delivered food to whom as part of war reparations. I know also about the "malenkij rabot" victimes, some 200,000 Hungarian civilians, men between 18-50 from Eastern Hungary, who were taken to their death to your dear country. Most of them never returned. So you will understand that your fairy tail explanation about your so-called food aid is not taken by me seriously to put it mildly.
And keeping 300 billions in dollars...you are not doing it out of love for us but simply because exchanging it for euros would not be a good idea at current exchange rates.
And about your dear leader "well informed"? There were many leaders and dictators in History, who were very well informed but as human beings they had as much friendliness and human feeling as snakes or crocodiles. When I referred to his foul language I had one of his outbursts in mind. When I journalist asked him recently if he were the richest man in the world by accumulating some 40 billion dollars (what I find an exaggeration) he responded according to New York Times in such an ordinary, foul way that even the NYT was reluctant to print it...just gave a hint.
I am sorry to not be able to praise your leader as we were forced to do it in the fifties but fortunately times have changed for the better.

JOE
1. You recovered from WWII in 6 years: yes by exploiting the satellite countries of Central_Europe.
*** Joe , you know nothing ! We at the time helped our partners to recover too. We sent the free of charge foods while many Soviets still starved. We refused to take greater parts of the contribution appointed in Nuernberg for Romania, East Germany, Hungaria , Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia.
2. You help the West with row materials as PRESENTS???
*** How else can you call it if most of the money never returns to Russia but remains in the West to keep up their economies ?
3. Support America? When, how? The reality is that you work against America in almost every possible area world-wide...
*** Above 300 bln USD we keep in the US so what else is it but not a support ?
*** Yes we oppose America where we can to. It is normal when the US undermines our positions wherever it can. And it was not Russia who started this new cold war. As well as the first one.
*** Russia can be a good friend and a partner as soon as we can see the US to refuse from it's unrealistic idea of world dominating. As long as we exist the US will never be ruling the world. It may be number 1 but not the only commander. So we defend not only ourselves but other nations as well.
4. Putin respected ? The better expression would be "feared" by small European neighboring countries ...
*** I said "man of influence" but if you use other words then I agree with you. Hostile regimes fear him while the others respect him to change for better both Russia and the world.
5. Interview with journalists? Those are rather long monologues. If some questions are allowed..
*** Hatred switches off the remaining menthal abilities you have. Everybody will tell you that Putin is the most informed leader in the world. I don't know who the hell you are Joe but you envy us to have such a smart leader. Just tell me what country you belong to and I'll tell you the difference. But I am sure you will not dare to compare Putin with your local President. My compassion !

Ataman,
Thanks for the very useful travel info. Maybe I will go there one day with my brother. I also planned to take the Trans-Siberian Express with a pioneering friend when I was much younger. I like trains, watch mother nature, feel the waste expanses and don't mind the lack of confort. Playing chess with fellow passangers and eating "kartoschka" at some stations most be also fun. The negative - as I heard - is a certain "smell" after 3-4 days, when you start to "smell the lion".

But back to your comment.
1. You recovered from WWII in 6 years: yes by exploiting the satellite countries of Central_Europe.
2. You help the West with row materials as PRESENTS??? wow this a good one! You know like everybody that you sell them mostly to EU countries, who pay top prices, world market prices for them.
3. Support America? When, how?
The reality is that you work against America in almost every possible area world-wide. George Bush - with 8 months left in office - is just not able to officially admit that he was too naive when he believed that Russia can be a partner.
4. Putin respected? The better expression would be "feared" by small European neighboring countries, who fortunatelly enjoy now NATO protection.
5. Interview with journalists?
Those are rather long monologues. If some questions are allowed..and by chance unplaisant ones...than your dear leader shows his true colors by using foul or obscene language. We would say he speaks like a truck driver. Believe me it is not a complement.

While there are problems... please don't believe instantly. As I wrote somewhere else, the anti-Russian agenda in the U.S. became so absurd, my New Year postings about Дед Мороз were removed from a popular U.S.-based travel forum - only few did stay in BiH and SRB corner of that forum because these were not in English. I do see many more absurd things. This is of course not a denial, we wish, things should run MUCH better in Russia than they are, but it's nowhere even close to the common perception.
I suggest, Joe - if you have time - go to Serbia or even better, buy a Moscow-St. Pete cruise (ca. 200 000 Ft in Budapest, don't buy in USA, Americans charge $3K-$4K/person).
It's pretty safe thing, ca. 1000 Euro/person is not that difficult to afford, the guide is in Hungarian and for starters it's a good thing. The Bp-Moscow train ticket for two if you buy in Slovakia (go to Sturovo) is much cheaper than in Hungary, a sleeper will run ca. 120 Euro round-trip (ask for CITY-STAR tickets).
CITY-STAR tickets to Russia are sold in Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, b the way. In Belgrade only the Wasteels office sells them (at the station).
The cruise is sold in Budapest by 1000ut, in Belgrade by R-Tours.
Hope this helps to kill all the myths. I am not affiliated with any of these, just some hints how to travel cheaper and simpler.

If serious I dislike words like LIBERAL and DEMOCRAT for the way they were implemented here brought us a disaster. You know during WW2 about 70 000 Soviet cities and villages were destroyed and it took us only 6 years to recover ! But now it's been 17 years that the West sponsored Eltsyn coup d'etat took place and we still cannot reach the level of 1989.
I never voted for Putin for he keeps our money to support America while we need our roads , plants , hospitals and many other things to be repaired. It only means that we send our oil , gas metals, wood , coal , wheat and other exporting items free of charge as presents ! Putin's command attracts funds at 6-7% annual while our own money are deposited under 2,5% annual. Then they explain that otherwise there will be inflation. What inflation can be if you modernize the existing plants or roads ? Why do we still keep 45% of our funds in dying US currency ? Why do we support hostile Ukraine with 5 bln USD bonus annual when there are much more grateful peoples in the world ? How did it happen that during Putin only official Russian billionaries in the Forbs list has encreased from 5 to 63 ? You're right about the poverty in the provinces. Those people in the villages have no jobs and they drinks vodka daily.
But you also must know that the general course of Putin I approve especially the the foregn policy of him. I am just more radical than Putin is. Maybe he knows something I do not know. Yet I am proud we have such a national leader. No matter where you are from ,Joe , but I bet you don't have such a leader. Joe, to suggest that corruption and bribery are at historically unprecedented levels in Russia today is patently absurd western (read CIA and MI6) propaganda. The times of Rasputin or Berea or Yeltsin contained much more corruption if not actual wealth. Get-rich-quick schemes suggest the pyramid schemes of Albania, not the government assisted fortunes of Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Abramovich. And I don’t know where you get your information about the starvation in the countryside. Look, I am not at all happy with the current distribution of wealth in Russia and would have voted for the Communist for the same reason I vote for Ralph Nader, but it is absurd to question the economic and political progress made under Putin.

Ataman,
Thanks for the very useful travel info.

Rote Kapella,
I forwarded 2 links to Sergei about today's Russia. I don't see them yet. It should be interesting for you.
Believe me it is not a complement.
pre 18 godina
Rote Kapella,
By "liberal" do you mean that he allowed corruption and bribery to blossom at a level never seen in Russia before?
Or the get-rich-quick scheme of his friends (100 billionares in Moscow alone in a short time)he allowed why people on the country side live in deep poverty in dying villages...hardly profiting from the enormous oil revenues?

I talked about poverty, not starvation. I give you this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7230502.stm ....greeting from Golovka, nice quiet place to spend some time.

JOE
My compassion !
.
pre 18 godina

My younger daughter aged 9 got very dissapointed when I told her that we have a new President now. She calmed down only when I said that the new one is a friend of Putin. The only thing she wondered if he is tall. So it was the second time that she got dissapointed when I said that he's "same as Putin". But she relaxed when I mentioned that A GOOD MAN IS SEEN EVEN FROM A PIT.
If serious we all know it's a technical change cause there were only 3 real changes of the elites in 1584, 1917 and 1991. But developing such a procedure is a big deal Putin makes for Russia. According to "The Time" Putin is the second after Dalai Lama man of influence. And when such a man in such a country leaves his post all I can say is WELL DONE ! By the way I never voted Putin for he is too liberal in economics.

Face reality.

Hey Joe, uh, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?
Hey Joe, I said where you goin' with that gun in your hand? Alright ...
============================
Hey Joe , d'you like it by the Beatles or by Jimmy Hendrix ?
He is respected even in the hostile Europe to say nothing of the rest of the world. Who else can interview 1000 journalists during 4 hours ? If you know the background of the interviews his friend George gives then you will understand my meaning.

Joe, 8 May
Shalom Aleihem !
