This guy is showing the Balkans how it's done. Make way for Thaqi becuase he means business.

Guys there's no point in arguing who has accepted Kosovo. I'm sure you saw the scenes of European foreign ministers congratulating Mr Thaqi.

Blue and gold (#16) wrote "if there was no progress, no one would have recognized us."

Why should recognition mean progress? Some countries may have recognized Kosovo just to please George W. Bush. Others may have done so because of serbophobia or dislike of Russia.

So exactly in which domain has progress been made: human rights, crime rates, economy, infrastructure, corruption levels or employment rates?

Surely there must be tangible results suggestive of some degree of progress, or did Thaci just speak empty words?

The comments that I see here are to no surprise. You guys are taking everything too literally.

As far as progress is concerned, one cannot compare Kosovo to just yesterday or from the day it became independent. One must compare it from the time the international community was directly involved in Kosovo (1999) since the Prime minister is stating that “…progress made in Kosovo, the success which has been achieved together with the international community”.

May I remind you of how the Serbian army left Kosovo in 1999?! In another thought, I’ll let you figure it out yourself.

Many good things and bad things have happened since then but one cannot say that there was no progress in kosovo. If there was no progress, no one would have recognized us. The fact that most of the economic powerhouses and the majority of EU countries have recognized us shows that we did make progress. That does not mean that we are done, there is still a lot of work to be done.

Leon,

Your PM and Kosova as a new country, recognized and supported by most of the EU are doing just fine.
Congratulations!! Wish you further progress and consolidation. You are on the right track.

Mr Thaci is a legend, if you don’t like the guy is a different matter. This guy got two millions people out of their misery and has managed to get the world to back him. This guy doesn’t make nonsense promises unlike your blind politicians. He is a genius and you can’t argue with the bbc.

RE: Azir

And you really do think and believe this is Thaci's achievment?

Nothing to do with the bigest US military base in Europe? Don't remember asking Thaci for permission to build it?And nothing to do with NATO's needs?

Oh, yes, it's because they all love and trust Thaci, aka The Snake, that it is called SUPERVISED independence...

Azir, you made my day with this excellent joke!

EA,

Why in the Earth would now Serbia wanted to work for Albanian interests. Isn’t it normal, perfectly normal to work for own interests. And when it comes to law and respecting that law it is up to the countries who decided to violate or respect that law. Since some countries decided to stick to the law it is normal to say that is in Serbia’s interests to do so. Of course it would be perfectly suitable for Serbia if the entire EU decided to stick to the law, but since that did not happen, it is perfectly fair to say that disunity within the EU is just fine.

Everybody,
take it easy.
This is a typical political statement from a politician. It's easy to say "this and that will happen soon", and saying this costs nothing.

Let's wait for the NATO Summit in Bucharest these days, maybe more clear facts regarding Kosovo will be put on the table.

Best from Bucharest,
George

Ana, you're confused as to what Kosova's Prime Minister Thaci has accomplished so far. What do you call getting recognized by over 36 UN member states, with many being EU ,NATO and global economic powerhouses?Did I mention we also enjoy the loyal and dedicated support of the world's only super power?

Leonidas

Thaci said that “all of the European community supports the progress made in Kosovo, the success which has been achieved together with the international community.”

Does he know what the word progrees means? The world bank
reported that growth rates in Kosovo fell from 21% in 2000 to 4% in 2006.Moreover,
billions of $ that were given
from donor countries and the
EU just dissappeared as in a black hole in space. With regard to multicultural Kosovo that Thaci is talking
about the facts speak for themselves. The Serbs and other minorities have been cleansed by the Albanians and crime and also by the reluctance of KFOR to act against them.In Kosovo the percentage of the Serbian population has dropped from around 15% to just over 4%.
His comments about recognitio
from all EU countries is just
a mixture of lies and misrepresentation aiming to cause confusion and also create the feel good factor to his compatriots.

"Enough to create disunity" Thanks for understanding and pointing out that. I hope that everyone understands that as you bmrusila that is not about "international law" but it is about serbian interests.

You have made a great contribution in pointing out this FACT.

“all of the European community supports the progress made in Kosovo, the success which has been achieved together with the international community.”(thaci)

What progress, what are these acheivements and successes?

The situation in kosovo really is as it was in 1999. This is clear from comments made by the international and european community, who are stuck in a quagmire and completely frustrated with the situation.
As for the people of kosovo if anything its worse!

No one else is lauding other than thaci.

-An independence that is shaky at best.
-A divided nation.
-200,000 kosovan refugees still unable to return to their homes, in fear of their lives!
-A human rights record second to none.
-enclaves of minorities that have no freedom of movement, who have to be protected by armed forces for their own safety
-A powerless government that is controlled by foreign influences.
-A flag, that nobody waves and soon an anthem, that nobody will sing.

-etc etc.

Laud all you want thaci!!!

Words have never filled a stomach, nor provided protection for those who are vunerable and in need (this includes all those who live in kosovo without discrimination)!!!

Thaci's comments are self serving and based on no objective facts. The EU is divided to the point of paralysis from divergent views regarding recognition of Kosovo. Many smaller EU nations have only recognised Kosovo because the US had its foot on their throats. On this basis you have to take Thaci's comments with a grain of salt.

Ana

pre 18 godina

Will Thaci explain what progress has been made in Kosovo? This type of statements are always very funny: you give a statement but do not explain it. The reason: because there is nothing to explain...

bmrusila

pre 18 godina

Why does he lie? Firstly, not all countries within the EU supported UDI neither all countries within the EU will recognise it. There is no doubt that there are some countries left to recognise but probably 5-7 EU countries won’t recognise Thachistan. It is not many but still enough to create disunity within the EU and that suits Serbia.

He went furthermore in his lies by claiming that Thacistan made any progress. What progress is been made over there, in what sphere? Economy is sad story, human rights do not exist (only on the paper proposed by Ahtisaari, but they don’t know how to interpret it), the rule of the law and justice is still dream.

Mr Thaci, of course the EU leaders will publicly support you and encourage by lies, but what they privately think about you is another story. So far, you serve them just fine in implementation of their agenda.

Marco, Amsterdam

“all of the European community supports the progress made in Kosovo, the success which has been achieved together with the international community.”

What progress has been made in Kosovo? According to Western media (I am unable to read Albanian or Serbian), the only thing that has changed in Kosovo is an increase in tensions between K-Albanians and minorities.
