Good point! It's not like Kosovo needs anymore weapons. Every house probably has a gun and a few hand grenades.

Kosovo needs aid and economic support. I doubt very much the Albanians are going to get much of that. No wonder why Thaci wanted Russian aid to go through Pristina. ;)

Before the UDI, Pristina treated Resolution 1244 as irrelevant. Now it looks like the be all and end all to the UDI through deliberate mis-interpretation.

If an agreement has been formulated in order to mislead the other party, any court of any civilized country takes notice of this motive when judging about the details of an agreement –and decides accordingly against the party that has intentionally mislead the other party.

I would say that the dispute between parties over the UN SCR 1244 is a typical example of an agreement whose aim is to mislead the other party (by UN reference to “territorial integrity” mentioned only in the preamble and thus not legally binding, although it was clearly known that Yugoslavia/Serbia entered in the agreement with the demand and understanding that both the wording and formulation for “territorial integrity” was legally binding.

This is not a case of "interpretation" since the other party had from the very beginning different and hidden intension by the "agreement". It is clear that the other party knew from the very beginning that there is no agreement of “territorial integrity”. This party succeeded to formulate the paper so that it managed to mislead the other party. There is a legal term for this wrongful deception: fraud.

RE: Party time "...if it really was unilateral it wouldn't have been recognized, it had sufficient International backup to come to this maturity stage."

Unilateral means it was without the concent of the country it previously belonged to and that was Serbia! It has nothing to do with international recognition...

This is one of the reasons the same countries that recognized Kosovo call it an "unique" case...

If you want a translation then here it is: UNILATERAL means stealing a part of a country and that is what you have done...

But then again you are experts on all the illegal issues, so that not a suprise, isn't it?

As per International Law (that you guys seem to be quite newly in love with) the interpretation of a Treaty or any other document resulting from the will of the States can be perfect when it's the parties who interpret it. If these countries who are at the origin of 1244 use it to justifiy the (non unilateral) declaration of independence, it's their right. If they deem 1244 is a basis so is their right too. And stop saying UDI, if it really was unilateral it wouldn't have been recognized, it had sufficient International backup to come to this maturity stage. There's nothing unilateral but perfect example of a multilateral decision taking process.
