Unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo Albanians would contravene the Helsinki Accord, all UN Security Council resolutions on Kosovo, and the very foundations of international law. Recognition of that illegal "independence" by other nations would certify these nations as INTERNATIONAL CRIMINALS by their own laws, and set a precedent for other nations like Russia, China, Indonesia, Iran and Turkey to act in a similarly illegal fashion, outside the bounds of the United Nations and international conventions. This would have long lasting and dramatic results on world affairs.

Absence of law is LAWLESSNESS, in which you are far more likely to end up as a victim than a beneficiary.

On June 26, 1963, JFK said:
"Ich bin ein Berliner". It was the Soviets who were building the wall and trying to isolate another nation... the moral of a story is that using any quote from JFK is not a good idea when you threten with sactions, isolation, etc. Think abou it!

Branislav,

Please try and use neutral sources. The link in your text is written by the “American Council for Kosovo”, they’re financed by Serbia for propaganda.

We can talk all day and night about whats right and wrong and whats legal and whats illegal. Kosovo is Kosovos and no one elses.

Serbia will have to make the decision whether it wants to join the EU or not.

Kosovo exports very little goods to serbia but serbia exports quite a lot into Kosovo therefore a trade embargo would damage Serbia more than Kosovo. Powercut??? No big deal, electricity can be bought from other neighbouring countries. Apart from that, Serbia relies on Kosovo to sell electricity to Greece so it’s a bigger minus for Serbia again. Isolation and ecenomic decline for nothing.

We have a saying where im from; the strong one will beat you and will not let you cry!!!

At the end on the day Kosovo will get financial support from the countries supporting it’s independence in case it’s urgently needed. Not because they have simpathy for Kosovo but because they don’t want it to turn into a catastrophy, because theyre the ones who made the decission. Who will support Serbis? Russia maybe with GasProm????

SERBIA, come to terms with the reality!!!

the albanian comments sound weirder and weirder...

first they feel strong because they believe to have the US in their back, and afterwards, they start whining about sanctions imposed by Serbia.

well my dear friends, besides that the US will not stay with you to the end, you will have to experience where that irrational ideology is leading you.

Milosevic and his friends have brought too many troubles in the Balcan Countries.
Tadic and the other Serb politicians are doing their best now,but I don't know if it's enough.
Soon the US and Europen countries will realise that giving indepedence to Kosovo may start the WW3. It's never too late to change their mind.

"These Serbian politicians are really naive. You cannot maintain Kosova/o within Serbia and then close the border between Kosova/o and Serbia. That is leaving Kosova/o out of Serbia. That is also a way of recognizing that borders exist between Serbia and Kosova/o and as such they're two different entities. There are no borders within a unitary state. Serbia claims to be unitary yet at the same time they threaten to leave Kosova/o out of their borders. Correct me if I am wrong but that is what us Albanians have wanted all along, be out of Serbia's borders and cut all ties with them. Now you have these Serbian politicians who claim to work for the good of Serbia that that threaten Albanians by saying that if you declare independence, we're gonna cut you off from Serbia completely. Well thank you very much for the understanding Serbia and for doing exactly what we ask for, to be completely cut off from you. Thank you for listening and even doing more than we ask by sealing off the borders. As an Albanian the closing of borders does not sound like a threat at all. It sounds more as following the aspirations of the Albanian people in Kosova/o.
(johny, 7 December 2007 23:23) "

The border closure will be at the Ibar, in what will effectively be a de facto partition.

In fact - what Belgrade should do is - prepare the long time strategy. No hard measures would be neccessary. By promoting S.Milošević into leadership role in 1987 - Serbs showed their lack of sense of strategy. Now after 20 years it is time to prepare a good strategy - and it means waiting the other side to play foul - first of all.
By giving leadership position to Mr.Thaci - K.Albanians showed their considerable immaturity. That immaturity of whole Kosovo society is "ingredient" which makes Kosovo equation difficult to solve. To those who wont to explore dark sides of character of Mr.Thaci here is the link: http://searchlight-germany.blogspot.com/2006/07/hashim-thaci-or-when-little-red-caps.html
With such person as Mr.Thaci as the head of government - there is no hope of stability nor "rosy" future of Kosovo state...
US has for a while played on a card - what is good for US is good for the rest for the world... There is no justice in such attitude - only egoistical policy of one nation over the rest of the world. But this policy maybe has seen last golden days. It is simply not-sustainable in the long run, and Kosovo "solution" could be one of it's last "results". Serbs and Serbia should hope for the better future in more just world that will come - probably in not so distant future. It will certainly not be the world ruled by the interest of the single state, but something closer to everyone's understanding of word - justice. There is no justice in egoism.

I think they already did start their retaliation.

Today K-Serbs, attacked Mr Rucker and Nato's Lieutenant General Xavier de Marnhac convoy. They were not hurt since their bodyguards and nato soldiers intervened but they were very distressed by this act of K-Serbs.

Some Nato soldiers, were hurt but not seriously and so did one Serb. There were no arrest as Nato and Mr Rucker tried to play down the incident.
Lieutenant General Xavier de Marnhac, and Mr Rucker went to meet K-Serbs in their village and during the press conference, group of Serbs started to shout and swear at Mr Rucker and co.

Later Mr Rucker said that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and that behind this, stands Serbian government who manipulate with K-Serbs.

I wonder for how long would Nato play down such incidents in the future?

Very soon we are going to see a billboard put up in Belgrade bearing a smiling photograph of President Bush with the words "Kosova and Serbia towards the EU" as independent states

Kosova must become independent NOW

With that language and rhetoric there isn't the slightest chance for Kosova to be within Serbia. Absolutely no. Serbia is trying hard to radicalise not only Kosovar Albanians but also Albanians in Albania and Macedonia.
