It started with the Slavs coming to the Balkans. When Russia helped Serbia get independence and more than that when Cubrilovic of Academy of Sciences wrote the infamous "Expulsions of Albanians". It started when Milosevic came into power. It started when Kosovo was taken the autonomy it had before. It started when the Serbian government did not agree at Rambouillet to give Kosovo autonomy. It started when the mass graves were found out. 10.000 people paid for the independence only 8 years ago. It would have been enough if Kosovo was in Europe. Unfortunately is still in the Balkans surrounded by good hearted neighbors.

well Lilly, if you don´t remember it...
it started with albanian extremists attacking and killing serbian police personnel and even innocent civillians both serbian and albanian.
instead of calling scandinavians idea silly, you should rather get the facts straight.
otherwise you only lose seriousness.

" If the Albanians turn to violence, the Kfor will respond ....and then? Nothing, except that the world powers will say "hey, the Albanians are war-mongers. We can not give a land to these people". So it is a catch 22, isn´t it ? "
This is a really silly idea, coming from a "Scandinavia".
Now, think back a moment, how did Kosova come to be in this position? And, again, what is the EU/NATO calling for now?
Right, independence for Kosova.
pre 18 godina
So WHAT if "Kosovo leaders running out of patience". Nothing will change! And the world knows it. If the Albanians turn to violence, the Kfor will respond ....and then? Nothing, except that the world powers will say "hey, the Albanians are war-mongers. We can not give a land to these people". So it is a catch 22, isn´t it ?

I went on Koha Ditore to see some Kosovo Albanian commets, but they do let you post in English. Can any of the Albanian bloggers explain why Ditore does not have an English version. I can understand not having Serbian, but why not English?

To Lilly - you are proof that all you want is the greater albania.
pre 18 godina
When the president's patience grows thin it's ok. When the prime minister it's still ok. But when all the leaders of 2 million abitants country sets a deadline then everybody should listen. It means they are not playing games to win popularity. They do not have to declare independence. Imagine if they all withdrew and let the mob take care of the country. Who thinks that UNMIK or KFOR will control that?
pre 18 godina
We are patient, don't worry.
Kosovo is free, Albanians are growing in power and in numbers. Did you learn statistics at school? Time is only on our side.
pre 18 godina
This is shameful. When Jeremic and Tadic are abroad demanding for the west to change its view for Kosovo, it is a normal diplomatic activity. When albanian leaders go and meet friends and their supporters among western sponsor countries of the independence, it is a "running out of patience". I don't know B92. I am sure you will not publish this post. But what you are doing here is biased unprofessional journalist work. You are not helping serb people to understand the bitter truth this way.
pre 18 godina
Albanians are not impatient. They are just being told to say so. That is just part of the concerted campaign to nudge the serbs and russians into cold water of independence. This is diplomacy. Now every Western public has accepted the independence as a done deal. Read editorials across Europe! they all say that the deal has been made and that serbs and russians have to be given some time to get used to the idea. WEst will not backtrack... Russia eventually will. Tell me one instance when it did not.
pre 18 godina
No one is provoking. The basic fact is, poll in Serbia, among SERBIAN respondents have voiced their beliefs about Kosovo.
59% of the Serbian people believe Kosovo ranks 5th in issues of national importance to Serbia.
And, 68% of the Serbians polled believed they have NO INFLUENCE on national policies.
If anyting provokes the Serbian people, it should be this belief that the majority of people have NO VOICE in their own government. It is sad that the majority of people in Serbia believe they cannot determine and command their own destiny. That their destiny is primarily influenced and determined by a bunch of ruthless purveyors out to use any method to divert public attention of the people onto Kosovo issue rather than their own surroundings and the future of their families.
All peoples want peace and prosperity, including the majorities in Serbia and Kosova. I just want the Serbian Diaspora to see what people in Serbia believe to be the truth about their leaders and their position in Serbia. It's a sad reality whichever way one looks at it.
pre 18 godina
Patience is a virtue.Violence will completely alienate the Albanians from the rest of Europe.
pre 18 godina
nice try, Lilly.
but no Albanian can ever have the resolve like Serbs do have.
remember, after five centuries of foreign occupation, they came back and liberated their land.
instead of that, Albanians converted in shoals to islam...
so, who do you wanna trick with that propaganda? =)
pre 18 godina
Lilly, your comments are to provoke the Serbs on this site? Why? Isn't the objective here to discuss issues? Making patronizing little statements only separates people further. Unless that is your goal. Both Serbians and Albanians would be a lot better off if they saw the other's side a bit more clearly. Both these people's have a right to Kosovo. Many families have lived there for centuries. But neither wants to live under the other's rule. I understand that. It has nothing to do with housewives or pensioners.
pre 18 godina
Lilly - don't knock pensioners and housewives - they can, as we all know, be pretty ferocious! But you also shouldn't knock the recently reorganised Serbian army, which would protect their country if they had to (which I hope they wouldn't).
If Kosovo declares unilateral independence it would not be the Serbs that the Kosovans end up fighting, but the international troops.
pre 18 godina
Yup, even UN recognized that their work might dissolve if Kosova's independent status is not declared.
Otherwise, in these talks, security is outlined with KPS when Pristina declares independence without the UN.
SO buck up Serbs in the diaspora. Yesterday this newsservice declared that a poll showed 59% of Serbs ranked Kosovo 5th in importance and only housewives and pensioners believed Serbia should go to war over the Kosovo.
I doubt you'd get a full army if Belgrade declared war on Kosovo, except one of old pensioners and housewives. Oh yeh and those Lazar volunteers.
pre 18 godina
Kosovo leaders may run out of patience but what can they do about it? ..... resort to violence? .... and so alienate their supporters in the West .... and create more doubts about their ability to govern properly .... not to mention scaring away potential investors ..... in other words supporting violence would be tantamount to suicide, politically and economically.
Maybe they will unilaterally declare independence .... north Kosovo will immediately return the compliment ..... partition.
pre 18 godina
Go ahead and threaten the Europeans with more violence Mr. Ceku, it is what you know best, and it is the only card you have left to play. Legally, you have no case and you know it. The albanians are showing their true colours, and everyone is starting to see who here are the bad guys, and who are the good guys. All you have to do is look at the thousands of albanians who live in Belgrade and are treated fairly and live normal lives, and then compare that with the 85 year old grandmother in Pristina, who needs a military escort to go grocery shopping so that some albanian thug doesn't break her nose for speaking Serbian.
