By adopting this resolution the Serbian Parliament is absolutely right: any attempt by a small group of people to grant any form of "independence" to Kosovo will be considered as annexation of a considerable part of the territory of a sovereign state, in this case Serbia that is a full-fledged member of the the world community and the UN. Mr.Ahtisaari's "plan" ,unfortunately, has not been elaborated with full consent of Belgrade, but rather in Washington and London. Such a "plan" is actually a step in the wrong direction and it is unhead of since the Second World War in thge world politics. The "plan" should be rewritten together with the Serb delegation and a person now heading the UNOSEK should be replaced by another prominent and unbiased figure.

Serbia's President, Boris Tadic has a duty to Serbia, to the citizens of Serbia and to its diaspora to remain firm and committed to maintaining Kosovo and Metohija within the borders of Serbia, within the sovereign territory of Serbia.
Any misuse of language, double-meaning, backtracking, and wavering confusion on the part of President Tadic in regard to the Kosovo and Metohija issue must be viewed as the inability to maintain his Presidential position.
The Constitution of Serbia clearly states the will of the cititizens of Serbia that Kosovo and Metohija is a part of sovereign territory of Serbia.

Asking for more time will test the impaitient albanians further. Its in serbias interest to delay it. Serbia has no choice but not to accept it. What would they get if they gave it away, a big fat zero, with EU accession linked to the hague and no compensation for giving away 15% of territory, the west can shove it. Tell me a state that is willing to lose a percentage of its territory for nothing. With international law on serbias side why make it easy for the west to do what they want. Serbs should resist.

And what does that "autonomy" exactly entail? Any guarantees that there won't be a deja vu of repealing it?

As much as I want to believe that the Serbian leadership has changed, it's things like these that really enforce the contrary. As far as a lot of (most?) people are concerned, there really isn't any underlying difference between the current and the Milosevic administration. That fact alone should serve as a pretty good reason as to why Kosovars want independence. Do the reasons really need to be repeated over and over again?

I just wish people of Serbia realize what their representatives have done, overthrow them, put someone competent of leadership in charge and go forward, instead of being stuck in an endless loop of radical nationalism... I sincerely do hope that happens soon, or within my lifetime.

in other words.... "show me the LEGAL MECHANISM, please"

this is the strongest platform for S and clearly kostunica inspired.

the west wants BG to "be constructive" and sign away K b/c the west does not have the legal mechanism to do what they say (and never did).

They want serbia to sign the papers b/c it provides the west with the legal cover to give it independence. in essence they want S to accomodate it's own rape.

to get S to do this they threaten EU exclusion. this is a bogus threat. the scale of capitalization underway in Serbia right now means there is no turning back. the same coutries that threaten are the same ones capitalizing.

the RU position has clearly hardened. a cold war of words has erupted over this 5 other issues. the russians arent doing this b/c they like serbs. you are witnessing their re-emergence on the world stage. they see a bleeding washington and they are gonna take it down a notch and reassert themselves. this is pay-back for 15 yrs of out of control super power behaviour embarrassing russia in that time period.

at the same time... the situation in Bosnia deteriorates further. see Stratfor.

it is obvious that the west may now sidestep the UNSC... but I predict that will have clear consequnces. BG will probably go for partition of K and Bosnia.... and diplomatic and economic isolation of K.

Of most importance: Does anyone know who wrote the resolution? Was is it Kostunica?

On the Assembly's content:
On the one hand, it is good the Serbs are firm in not automatically accepting anything from Ahtissari, but even better that they are willing to negotiate to find a better solution. On the other hand, asking for more and more time is going to erode their credibility.
