Delusional? If you feel capable of engaging with an American economist from the Chicago School of Economics I suggest you acquire a better grasp of the English language.100k per capita what?I said 1 million diaspora Serbs INVEST $10,000 each in their homeland(similar to what American Jews do with Israel) on an annual basis which equals $10 BILLION and over a 10 year period equals $100B which is what Serbia will need to propel it to first world status. You do not get any respect asking for charity and handouts.Creating the proper climate for the inflow of capital,INVESTMENT,and productivity is what sound economic principles dictate.Do not comment on economic matters if you got your training from the Groucho Marx School of Economics or you are a lazy beggar waiting for a handout of bread crumbs.Foot the bill?defray costs?historical whims?I think it is your mind that is not operating in the 21st century.

Woowww !.. Luciano you're seriously way too delusional. You really think Diaspora Serbs shall grant 100K per capita to Serbia ?! I don't wanna offend you but I can't think any wackier idea than this. Just get a grasp. It's the EU's responsibilty to foot the bill and defray Serbia's expenses on her new path. EU countries dictate Serbia's territorial existence and have got to duly cover their historical whims.

Leave personal morality out of the equation. The people of Monaco and Macao and Las Vegas are free to go to church/synagogue/temple/mosque instead of the casinos but for the MILLIONS of people who enjoy gambling they are providing a HUGE profit windfall for the casino operators.Las Vegas alone gets 40 MILLION visitors a year coming to the desert to spend BILLIONS of dollars.Amsterdam is a tourist destination for MILLIONS of people EXACTLY because of its realistic policy of legalized prostitution and marijuana use laws and BILLIONS are contributed to Holland's tourism industry exactly because of these issues. There are not enough raspberries in the world to equal the revenue of ONE casino. Most agricultural activity is heavily subsidized by governments and is not a large income producing industry.Serbia needs to move past selling pigs into first world status. As far as manufacturing is concerned for months I have called on Serbia to woo Toyota or Honda to the Danube where Serbia's proximity to Western European markets and its low labor cost would be beneficial for these companies' profit margins.BOLD economic steps are needed to develop a world class economy.

luciano that is a good proposal....but gambling/red light district/maharajah, I don't think would fit in well at all....

They wouldn't benefit the economy as much as you think they would.....(Gambling might but only a little) but on a moral scale its not worth it, not even x10.

Serbia should exploit its agriculture as well. Serbia produces 1/3 of the worlds raspberries, we also produce some of the world best organic fruit juices and fruit period, with vast export of these the economy would benefit greatly.

We should attract more major companies such as Toyota to purchase the Zatava car factory (Largest in the Balkans) to make a actual good car, its time to put Zastava,Yugo etc.. any other abomination called a car that we made to rest.....sorry but its true our cars suck. :p

This goes for Serbia,Bulgaria,Croatia that we need to be the first to construct the pan Balkan pipe line, this a a race for oil dominance over the Balkans and who ever wins will reap the rewards. I think all the countries have sighed the agreement and we have the funding from Gazprom (Something the other plans lack) can any one shed some light of the current situation on this plz? have they started construction yet?

I am still wondering what is taking SO long the (WTO) membership? I mean we have joined (CEFTA) which will help out but we need to open up on a larger international scale.

Anyone else have some ideas to add?

Good questions and concrete answers. Kostunica does not have a choice, he must realize that Bozidar Djelic will be our next prime minister:) I am very glad Djelic was there in order to present Serbia in best way. Bil Gates will probably come to Belgrade in Autumn, that will show Serbia is changed. Economic plan for Serbia should consist few crucial things associate with our mentality changing. So, every student must have English knowledge, he has to have basic informatic knowledge. There is no Government on this planet which can carry out the reforms if the people are not ready to share responsibility with it. Also, i do not agree about figure related to so called Green field investments. Those investments are not above 500 million Euros...

I have a simple economic plan for Serbia that everybody can understand.1 million Serbs in the diaspora each invest a measley $10k a year and over a ten year period this amounts to ONE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS.This is the amount that will be required to raise Serbia to first world status.Set the lowest tax rates in all of Europe, offer budget airfares to Belgrade from all European destinations, put signs in English throughout the whole country, establish the Danube as a gambling mecca, allow a red light district and liberalize marijuana use laws, institute the most secretive banking laws in the world to attract capital regardless of its source, remove any restriction on the inflow or outflow of capital, adopt the euro as the official currency in order to alleve investor uncertainty due to currency price fluctuations and establish an English language curriculum for all Serbian students from the time they are in kindergarten onward, allow only economic technocrats free of political considerations to run the economy.I guarantee you that if my plan were adopted that Serbia would become a prosperous country in only a fraction of the time that it is taking by doing it only piecemeal.

"Over the last four years, Serbia attracted at least $1 billion a year of greenfield investment."
That's wrong. As a banker, Mr. Djelic should not confuse Greenfield investments, privatization deals, and brownfield projects (redevelopment and restructuring of industrial real estate).

"Our plan is to double this figure."
We are eager to discover this plan.

So Kostunica is completly right in saying that he will not be meeting Athisarri - only once the govt. is formed & only then can the proposal talks begin. How it takes to form depends on how intransigent the DS over the PM position. Given Djelic is a banker surely his expertise is better utliised in the finacial & economic part of governing. Like Djelic said it himself he is inexperienced and at this moment we need someone who is fresh in dipolomatic niceties. The serbian position has produced results and there should be no let up. Kostunica as PM again would send the message that Serbia despite being headed by moderates will not give up on Kosovo & Metohija and this must a united and very clear message. There will clearly be some major give to the DS politically but hopefully someone might change that without delay - this might create a dynamic that no one in the west can stop. Maybe Kostunica is right to let the dust settle for everyone. Like the old saying - for fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
