Kosovar Albanians are offering the biggest compromise they could: Instead of union with Albania, which is the elementary right of Kosovars which was taken from them on 1912 and latter on 1945, they are offering a independent state as a solution which is painful solution for Kosovars but acceptable for internationals.

Nenad, when was the highest possible autonomy offered? early 70's then taken away and people butchered! then serbia has a new constitution that does not allow albanians to vote. democratic citizens of serbia, and albanians should be happy with that. would you be happy with that, and then for serbia to have to represent undesired peoples in the un and nato... say sorry to the people of former yugoslavia and let the people define there existance the way they like and join the eu when u meet all ur obligations. k-albanians dont need to make compromise, it only has to protect its all citizens regardless of colour, race. its not personal, let the past go, it doesnt work.

I would like to thank Agim for saying exactly what i asked people not to say, simply because it's the same thing Albanians say time and time again when it comes to this issue. Tell me Agim, what compromises were these that the Albanians were offering? Can you tell me exactly what kind of compromises were offered by the Albanians. Could you please give me some concrete details if you can come up with any? If you wish to tell me then please be precise and don't steer around answering my question by talking like a politician, because i am not one. Offering minorities full protection doesn't count since this can not be compromised; it is a given, therefore don't try to use this as an argument.

Everybody knows Ahtissari has been heavily biased since day one, which is why he says that the Albanians have been more willing to compromise. I can't see how this can be true since Serbia has been offering the greatest autonomy possible for a long time. This is also a fact so please don't try to dispute this.

What compromise, Ahtisari said that K-Albanians were much closer and they were willing to make compromises, and in the other side Serbs were no where near. So much for satirical compromise.
I am very suprised at B92, that there is no article at all today regarding EU parlament yesterday. Three deputies from serbia were grilled from other countries, especially from Germany and Slovenia. I would like to quote the Slovenian deputy , which spoke in serbian so that no word was lost in interpetation, as follows: " Everybody knows that Kosova would become independent only Serbia is making beleive that this will not happen. Serb politicians should be honest with their people and tell the truth about Kosova's independence" Please , B92 print some of the words that were said during yesterday's session in european parlament, Thanks

It's funny how the only people to comment on this story are Albanians. What's even more typical of them is that they are quick to criticise Mr. Draskovic but they fail to comment on what he actually said in the story; that there has been no compromise from the Albanians from day one. Let's not beat around the bush here, this is exactly what has happened. The Albanians have offered absolutely nothing in terms of a compromise, but the Serbs have offered everything they could without independence. Now before anybody wishes to reply by saying "there is no compromise because the Serbs murdered their people" or something along those lines in an attempt to steer away from what i said earlier, remember that Serbia has tried to compromise as much as it can even though the Serbs in Kosovo have been persecuted for decades by the Albanians. And please i hope nobody says this didn't happen because it did. It's a fact.

To the comments above please realise that the Ahtisarri "proposal" is still aparently being worked upon. Moreover, could it not be the case that Rupel is realising that the best option for all in Serbia (including Kosovo & Metohija) will be that there is an agreement that is acceptable to all and more importantly is a win-win solution for all concerned. More over when this "proposal" is finally allowed to see the light it will be the starting point for talks.

There has been no mention recently of apparent, conditional, maybe sometime in the future, what ever the next terminolgy might be independence beyond the same old stance given by the US and UK. But hey, did they not say there will be Independence in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and with so much certainty 2006? Guess what it did not happen! All of the top 3 commentators have in the past posted comments that stated that full recognition and total soverign independence will be granted in 2006. Please keep your belief in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010,etc.. so that there is less and less violence against those who wish to live peacefully in Kosovo & Metohija and wish to work in the best interests of all peoples of Serbia. Especially the future generation - children in their school.

Draskovic called compromise satirical. Meaning Kosovars don't seem willing to compromise, only insisting on independence, which makes a joke out of the idea of informed discussion leading to a compromised solution. I think the comments here clearly support Mr. Draskovic's statements. The Kosovars seem so blinded by the idea of Independence that they can't see anything else (including their own human rights violations). Keep in mind, it’s the process of negotiation that will set the precedent for the future relations between our two peoples, not the eventual outcome. Kosovo probably will get independence, but its up to the Albanian people to decide if they want to do this in a way that will build relations between Serbians and Kosovars, or destroy them.

We all know that Milosevic was a criminal of epic proportions, whose decisions hurt not only the Albanian people, but the average Serb as well. Milosevic played on the fears of genocide and WWII to frighten the common people who believed him when he said he would protect them from ever being beaten again. The Serbian people suffered sanctions, political oppression, economic collapse, ethnic cleansing, bombing and much more because of Milosevic. The Serbian people suffered greatly under Milosevic, not just Kosovars. If the Serbian people supported his nationalistic tendencies, it was only because they feared for their safety.

If you want true peace in the Balkans, the nationalistic talk on both sides needs to stop, and the Kosovar Albanians need to reassure the Serbian population that they will be safe and secure and that our historical and religious sites will be preserved and protected. Albanians have committed numerous human rights violations as well, its not all black and white, good and evil, there is plenty of blame on both sides of the issue here. If you want true democracy, a free society and a multi-ethnic state, it requires asking yourselves some tough questions. It requires a tough stance against discrimination towards minorities. It requires knowing your weaknesses as well as your strengths. Constantly bringing up the crimes Serbians have done against you, without taking a balanced approached and acknowledging the crimes committed against Serbians is a recipe for further conflict.

Ask yourselves this: What do you want for the future of the EU? A multi-ethnic mosaic of tolerance and economic prosperity, or another Balkan black hole in the middle of Europe just waiting for a spark to set off ethnic tensions and bloodshed.

hej sidi it is not only the weak Serbia's "lobbying methods", but also mostly the cause/argument they are fighting for is weak in itself.
facts show opposite of what the sernian dreams are, they should wake up and face reality. There is an albanian saying (in nentori i dyte movie) "A nation who sleeps, dies".

Does anyone else see the hilarious paradox going on here? Wherever Draskovic goes abroad, he is treated like an unstable mental patient. Basically the same people who have openly come out in favor of Kosovo's independence, turn around and tell him that they do not support either side. it's like that little baby who cries over everything and adults are forced to lie to it in order to make it shut-up. Draskovic goes to Israel, a state clearly pro Kosovar independence, and they tell him "ooo we do not support that...did we say that? Nooooo".
Draskovic goes to Switzerland, the biggest supporter of Kosovar independence in Europe, and they tell him "of course we don't support independence Mr. D, you just sleep easy now...go on...take a nap".
Now Mr. D goes to Slovenia, and the same story; they lie to the poor guy to keep his schizophrenic tirades in check. I find this hilarious. It pretty much shows you how weak Serbia's "lobbying methods" really are.

Not long a go and in EU parlament Mr. RUPEL has expresed his opinion and he was clear about Kosova. Yes, Kosova will get the independence and Slovenia would be one of thE first countries to endorse and recognize Kosova as the new member of European countries and UN. What is ironik is that; Mr. Drashkovic knows the outcome but is not willing to tell his people about it.Politicians in Belgrade should be honest and tell their the truth, NOW.

Hey Mister Draskovic.
Do you know that you are not suppose to decide about the future of Kosovo. Those are the Kosovar peoples that can choose their future. You need to accept that reality. How do you think that the kosovar peoples will accept to live in the same state with Sebia that is been just 7 years that the serbian state has killed their housbens, wifes, babyes, mothers, fathers sisters, doughters and sons. None of the serbian gouvernement didn't express his or serbians excuses about the innocent war victims in Kosovo. You don't have shame to ask the albanians to live with you with having not any regret about the killings that that state did? You think that the kosovar albanians are so stupid to believe to that tiranic state of Serbia ( I don't mean serbian peoples). So Misted Draskovic, wake-up, face the trouth, your declarations are satiric, and not the Kosovo intention to become independent because all the chances are in the kosovar side and the official independence is on the door for few weeks of patience. The talks have supposed just to build any knew neighbourhood relations bettwen to states. The serbian guverment tryes with that talks to impose the domination of the Kosovo that has been lust since June 1999. Anyway there is NO any chance for Serbia to keep her hands in Kosovo. You can just wish to Kosovo good luck on the new state.
