After a decade of studying Balkan conflicts, I have heard many stories of what happened in 1389. Now that this has been made clear to the world, how about setting your sights on the future? Or will we be replaying the same old record until 2089 and thereafter?

"[...] Kosovo should become independent. That view was locked solidly in concrete and has never been seriously challenged or alternatives considered [among significant majority of key international leaders and opinion makers]."

Uh-huh...

This means the UNSCR 1244 was and remains as an intentional, premeditated deceitful act, a perversion of honesty. So the makers of this resolution accept themselves the behaviour they accused Serbia's former goverment of.

Uh-huh.

Wasn't it enough to commit the trickery at Rambuillet?

"The West" wants to lead Serbia onto a new path into future. Is this that path?

I can see a hardcore nationalist's daydream come true.

Russia and China will NEVER allow Kosovo to call itself an independent state. This has become clear to all observers over the past several months.

Clearly the US has lost a handle on the situation given the continual insistence of firstly Wisner and now Montgomery that Serbia must accept the choice of the US with regards losing 15% of its state territory. It is clear and has been clear in the past that the US has only supported the view of the Albanians in the land grab of Kosovo & Metohija - nothing new here. However, despite such diatribe dribble that is regurgitated again and again the US has been unsuccessful in pushing through its ill-conceived, ill-principled objective of independence for Kosovo & Metohija - else it would have been done so by now.

All this suggestion of Serbian elections as a reason to delay the Ahtisarri "proposal" is a smoke screen. The case that this is a unique situation is false and has not been proven. The reason for the failure of US diplomacy with regards Serbia is generally because these so called diplomats irrationally choose to create a black & white, Cowboy & Indigenous American Indians, Good vs Bad picture rather then deal with the multi-faceted aspect of the Balkans as a whole. If the answer for this diplomatic solution was just a matter of "carrots" then why have proposals been delayed and the carrots not been presented more expeditiously? Moreover he has no comprehension of the Kosovo & Metohija principle - the earthly kingdom is short-lived, but the Heavenly One is forever - which has been drumed into the Serbian soul for 600 years. Carrots will please only those whom can be bought but life is more then just the material.

The fact of the matter is that the stance of the democratically elected Serbian government upon principled and sound arguments have unseated the US. Russia has clearly re-iterated that this is a precedence that it will use and as such China will not accept. The only way out will be "Carrots" to the Russians on a very large scale (WTO just for starts) and a great deal of diplomatic wrangling which will lead to a lose-lose situation and a continuation of economic decline in Kosovo & Metohija as the solution in effect is a continuation of the same - independence in time but not yet defined exactly when. Maybe the US should offer 15% of its state as a "carrot" to the Albanians for not going on the rampage when the so called independence is not granted in January 2007. Surely the arguments offered by the Serbian government deserve more credit and a realistic acceptance that a better future for all the peoples of Serbia would be best served in a new framework of cooperation amongst all its people and acceptable to all its people. Can the US not think out of the box when it comes to foreign policy?

If the US were truly a beacon of leadership to the world then they would ensure that these negotiations created a win-win for all. Surely the US has to start realising that in order to be accepted as a world leader it should lead by example and not act as the school bully imposing it's own will on others.

If it's true that Serbia lost Kosovo, it had nothing to do with Milosevic's policies. If anything, Milosevic's policies delayed independence. If he had taken a softer line, Kosovo would have been independent in 1995 after Dayton. The fact is that the Kosovo Albanian's high birth rate is what may eventually lead to Kosovo's independence. Even if its true that Albanains are not be strident jihadists, Albanians have fully incorporated Islam's hatred and total domination of women. Finally, does anyone seriously believe that an independent Kosovo is the end of Albanian expansionism? Eventually, Albania will spread to the gates of Vienna.

"The reality is that Kosovo’s fate was sealed when hundreds of thousands of Kosovo Albanians fled into Macedonia, Montenegro and Albania in response to actions taken by the Milosevic government in 1999"

"...also convinced a significant majority of key international leaders and opinion makers that Kosovo should become independent. That view was locked solidly in concrete and has never been seriously challenged or alternatives considered. "

"the delay in announcement of the Kosovo decision has given Serbs unrealistic expectations that the actual decision may be changed"

Those three lines pretty much sum up perfectly what I have been telling the Serb readers on here for awhile now. I know that it is hard for you folks to come to grips with such a reality. It would be hard for me too if it was my country in the place of Serbia. But the truth is that you have forever lost control of Kosovo, and the more you enshroud yourself in mythical false visions, the harder you will get crushed emotionally when independence is announced. Now I understand that every individual needs material to make themselves feel better, despite the outside realities, but you folks (Serbs that is) need to be prepared for what was decided in 1999.
