| SMIRNOFF Experience™ presents Layo&Bushwacka!
SMIRNOFF Experience™ is a worldwide program which
organizes electronic music related events of the
highest order in thirty countries around the world,
including Serbia- Montenegro. All the latest happenings
can be followed on the official website www.smirnoffexperience.com.
With the help of Smirnoff, some of the biggest
names in electronic music have played here: Gilles
Peterson, Christian Smith, Ben Sims, Toshio Matsuura,
Rino Cerrone, Play Paul, Buffalo Bunch, Etienne
de Crecy, Alex Gopher, and many others. SMIRNOFF
parties have become favored by club scene enthusiasts
around the globe. The next event in the slew of
Smirnoff Experiences parties will take place in
Belgrade’s Dom Omadine on December 3, with the
appearance of stars of the international DJ scene
– Layo & Bushwacka!
Layo & Bushwacka! have walked the long road;
one from a teenager who frequented ”disreputable”
acid parties, and the other who left classical
music in order to spend more energy focusing on
the hardcore scene. These two loudmouthed fugitives
of the underground scene are now reveling in their
positions as the new leaders at the top of the
clubbing scene. Layo opened The End, a club dedicated
to the promotion of new music to the right people.
Both spent time discovering new kinds of techno,
tech-house, electro and breakbeat, which they
mix with blues, classical and contemporary film
scores, in order to create dance music for the
new age.
In 1998, Layo & Bushwacka! released their
first album “Low Life” for End Recordings, combining
electro, techno, underground house and old breakbeat
sounds, with delta blues and dub reggae in which
they sought inspiration, in order to create a
soft breakbeat atmosphere all its own.
The second Layo & Bushwacka! album, “Night
Works”, was release in July 2002, for XL recordings
– home to The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Etienne
De Crecy, Blue States, Avalanches and Badly Drawn
Boy. “Night Works” contains all the elements we
loved about “Low Life,” but the sound is taken
to a new level. The presence of deep bass sounds
is still there, only this time, linked and wrapped
up in a blanket of soft tones.
Their third album, released this year, is called
“All Night Long.” This album shows Layo &
Bushwacka! playing together at The End. Layo &
Matt combine their own hits with popular songs,
new with old, creating a beautiful night of music.
“This is an exceptionally promiscuous sampling
of everything from break to electro to funky house,
all in all, a cheery salute to music.” Their first
show in Belgrade is anxiously awaited.
Ryan Shaw will provide the support, and English
DJ whose career took off when we won a DJ competition
in Great Britain. This competition was organized
by Smirnoff Experience and was filmed for the
documentary series titled “Joy of Decks,” which
we will soon have the opportunity to see on one
of our television stations. Ryan has spent the
last year playing large festivals and the most
famous clubs in Great Britain, and has now been
given the honor to open up for Layo & Bushwacka!
Ryan is a composer as well, has his own studio,
and works as the producer of a radio sho. His
live shows still show Ryan adapting to the style
of the more famous DJ’s he performs with.
