Rromano Suno 2 (B92CD215, 2006) is B92's new CD presenting contemporary music of the Balkan Roma, a journey that began three years ago with the first edition in this series. This music is becoming ever more popular through the interest shown by big name DJ's and producers like DJ Shantel who received a BBC award for his take on the Roma sound on Bucovina Club and Electric Gypsyland releases, publicity and popularity of the scene have grown accordingly.
At the same time a number of home grown talents have sprung up across the Balkans including individuals and bands with a wholly new and contemporary outlook for the way Roma music should sound: Kal, Toni Kitanovski, Martin Lubenov and others.
Almost all of the significant names of contemporary Roma music are present on the Rromano Suno 2 compilation. From the globally renowned Romanian Fanfare Giocarlia, Taraf de Haidouks and Mahala Rai Banda, remixed here by Senor Coconut and DJ Shantel to Serbian stars Boban Markovi? Orchestra, the incredible Turkish percussionist Burhan Ocal and his Trakya All Stars, accordion virtuoso Lelo Nika and topped off with another domestic name Kal…and these are but a few.
Hot shiny brass and silky smooth string sounds for the holidays!
