"Watershed moment for recovery of our economy"

He also "thanked the World Bank for the great help and the desire to have Serbia as a macroeconomic organised country on the path of development and prosperity," the government said on its website.

Vucic "stressed that the results that Serbia has achieved are above average, and added that the budget surplus proves it."

Head of the World Bank Office in Belgrade Tony Verheijen said that Serbia achieved excellent results in relation to the objectives, particularly emphasizing the strengthening of investment in the private sector, which contributed to the positive trends on the fiscal side.

One of the topics discussed was the need to adopt a plan to optimize the EPS, as well as an analysis of the general situation in this company.

They also discussed implementation of the plan and the financial consolidation of EPS, which was adopted in June last year.

The prime minister "pointed out that Serbia has the highest GDP growth in the region at the end of the first half of this year, and the highest growth in Europe."

He asked the two financial institutions to send a team of experts to Serbia, which will, together with national experts, contribute to defining effective measures to increase the growth rate of gross domestic product in the years ahead.

Vucic "stressed the importance of infrastructure projects and timely adoption of the Law on local government finance, before starting the process of preparing the budget for next year."
