Building to be demolished at suspected mass grave site

The remains of two people have been found at the site, which has been investigated since 2007. It has been established the victims were Kosovo Albanians.

The Serbian War Crimes Prosecution will also consider during the upcoming investigation whether the building next to the nickel quarry was purposely built to conceal the crime.

Comprehensive investigations will show whether there is in fact a new mass grave there.

Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine in Priština Arsim Gerksaliu confirmed for B92 that Priština's representatives will attend further investigation in Rudnica, and that at the last meeting with the Serbian side they received information that the two persons whose remains were found are of Albanian nationality and that the remains are from the war in Kosovo.

Deputy Prosecutor Bruno Vekarić said that preparations are underway to open an investigation, and it is believed that the two victims whose remains were found are a part of a larger group of Kosovo Albanians who were killed in the same incident.

The first information about a possible mass grave near Raška was given to EULEX representatives by a protected witness. Investigations so far have not confirmed claims that the site is a mass grave containing the remains of 250 Albanians, killed in several different places in Kosovo.
