BELGRADE Djordje Prelic, who was in Serbia sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of French national Brice Taton, has been arrested near Barcelona. Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic told Tanjug that Prelic was arrested for auto theft and use of fake passport. Man convicted of murder of Frenchman arrested in Spain He added that Prelic was in custody in Barcelona. “We have received information from Spain that the identification has been done and that finger prints have confirmed that this is Djordje Prelic for whom Serbia issued an arrest warrant,” Dacic said. Prelic’s lawyer Ivan Bajazit does not believe that his client will be extradited to Serbia soon. He told B92 that he would request a retrial. Taton was attacked and beaten by a group of hooligans on September 17, 2009 in downtown Belgrade ahead of the Partizan-Toulouse match. The Frenchman succumbed to his injuries in Belgrade’s Emergency Center on September 29, 2009. The attackers were initially sentenced to 240 years in prison in 2011. Prelic and Dejan Puzigaca were sentenced to 35 and 32 years in prison and Ljubomir Markovic and Ivan Grkovic to 30.
