BELGRADE Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica says Martti Ahtisaari’s statement sounds like an empty threat. Ahtisaari said that Serbia should not be allowed to join the EU unless it recognizes Kosovo. DSS leader assesses Ahtisaari’s statement as “empty threat” In a written statement to Beta news agency, the DSS leader assessed that the Serbian Constitution was an “impenetrable dam” to Kosovo’s independence and that it was out of the question to even think about changing the Constitution as long as the country’s integrity was at risk. “We made sure at the right moment in 2007 that the Security Council rejected Ahtisaari’s plan and no additional blackmails can revive Ahtisaari’s project to have Serbia recognize Kosovo,” Kostunica stressed. He noted that Ahtisaari’s statement seemed like “an empty gun” because the EU “is facing the crisis and has no idea what to do with itself”. “It is clear that the EU for Serbian citizens does not have such an attractive force anymore and that the ‘EU has no alternative’ policy is finished in Serbia,” Kostunica added.
