Serbia as "region's leader in solving difficult situations"

Daccord is visiting Serbia and the region from October 16 until 19, the government said.

The meeting was attended by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Veljko Odalovic, with one of the topics being "the continuation of long and very good cooperation, which includes working on the issue of discovering the fate of the missing persons, to which the Republic of Serbia attaches great importance."

This is the first visit of a high-ranking official of the International Committee of the Red Cross in almost two decades, the Foreign Ministry.

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic also received Yves Daccord later in day, to say that Serbia was "ready to make great efforts to solve the issue of missing persons, but that it expects the countries of the region that face the same problem to show more willingness to cooperate."

Brnabic said that the problem of the missing is the region's reality and that the Serbian government is ready to provide any type of assistance to this organization in order to properly address the issue.

According to the government, Daccord said that Serbia is the leader in the region when it comes to solving difficult and sensitive situations, and explained that in the coming days the delegation of the Red Cross will also visit other countries in the region and talk about this issue with government representatives, associations of missing persons and families.

He praised the efforts and courage that Serbia has shown in resolving the migrant crisis.
