Montenegro: Serbs, Russians on trial for attempted terrorism

The trial, presided by Judge Suzana Mugosa, was adjourned today after only ten minutes, because the defense asked for Special State Prosecutor Milivoje Katanic and Special Prosecutor Sasa Cadjenovic to be disqualified from the case.

The reason was their decision to publish transcripts of conversations that took place between lawyer Goran Rodic and his clients and colleagues.

The office of the president of the Supreme Court, Vesna Medenica, said earlier the process in the case against against those accused of the criminal offense of creating a criminal organization and the criminal offense of attempted terrorism will be public.

The trial was scheduled to be taking place also on July 20 and 21.

The accused include leaders of Montenegro's opposition Democratic Front Andrija Mandic and Milan Knezevic. The Special State Prosecution also indicted Russian citizens Eduard Shishmakov and Vladimir Popov, Mandic's driver Mihailo Cadjenovic, and nine Serbian citizens, among them a former commander of the Gendarmerie, Bratislav Dikic.

The process against Democratic Front's translator Anani "Nino" Nikic is being conducted separately.
