Belgraders march in Immortal Regiment/VIDEO
To mark May 9, the day fascism was defeated in 1945, the Immortal Regiment event was organized in the Serbian capital for the second year.

In Serbia, the event is organized by a Serbian-Russian initiative, made up of several foundations and media outlets dedicated to preserving the memory of those who died while fighting in wars against aggressors, "so that Europe today can enjoy peace and freedom.""By organizing this manifestation we want to pay our respects to our heroes from the First and the Second World War, as well as the brave defenders of Serbia from NATO's aggression in 1999," the St. Aleksandar Nevski Foundation, one of the organizers, said in a statement.
"The Serb land and the Serb people have made enormous sacrifices in wars, defending the values of truth, justice, and freedom. It is our duty to guard this history and protect it from the increasingly frequent revisionist attempts coming from those who sided with the aggressors," the statement added.
According to the foundation, although born in Russia, the Immortal Regiment marches "have no nationality, nor political or religious affiliation - because freedom-loving and anti-fascist values are international."
Last year, the event was held in nearly 40 countries, including the US, Germany, Britain, France, Austria, Italy, China, and Serbia - with the march in Belgrade being among one of the most numerous outside the former Soviet Union region.
