"Sanctions against Dodik support Bosnia's EU path"

Asked by reporters if she expected the EU to join these sanctions, Cormack, who was in Foca, said that this question should be posed directly to the EU.

"As for the US, we have been very clear - these sanctions have been imposed because they concern some things that we think are crucial, and that is the rule of law and the threat of secession. On the other hand, we believe that they support Bosnia-Herzegovina on its path towards the EU," she said.

The ambassador added that the United States sees itself as the one defending the Dayton Peace Agreement, which is very important for Bosnia.

When asked if she expected to be withdraw from the post in Sarajevo by US President Donald Trump, Cormack replied:

"We have two types of ambassadors - two-thirds are professionals and one third are political appointees, and they resign when administrations change. It is a known tradition in the United States. Since I am a professional diplomat, I am dedicated to staying in Bosnia-Herzegovina, because this is a very interesting and complex place."
