Heart of Joy Address: 18 Svetogorska St. Belgrade Phone: +381-11-334-51-81 Working hours of restaurant and kitchen: Monday – Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In short, the entire concept is based on guests feeling peace and serenity, in the focal point of the city. This feeling is enhanced by light blue shades, tranquil music and a completely and prodigiously pleasant, soothing and relaxed atmosphere. The menu is based on vegetarian, vegan and macrobiotic cuisines, lean dishes are prepared as well, but also international specialties. Breakfast is served ‘til noon, and for lunch and dinner, you can choose some of the in depth described soups, salads and entrées, mainly prepared according to recipes from India, although combinations have been adjusted to local tastes. The food can also be ordered as take away, but there is no delivery service. The vegetarian specialty of the house is “neatloaf”, a juicy protein steak (cereals, tofu and eggs) topped with a piquant sauce served with mashed potatoes (465 dinars), although every dish looks inviting and exotic and can be rounded off with dessert. In the beverage department, the accent is on freshly squeezed and organic fruit and vegetable juices (no sparkly beverages either) and teas. Located in Belgrade’s Open Heart Street, Heart of Joy represents something rarely seen in these parts, a restaurant where smoking is prohibited, alcoholic beverages aren’t served and meat isn’t eaten, a place made for those who in this way care about themselves and others.
