Macedonian opposition leader indicted

The first-accused is a former director of the Security and Counter-Intelligence Administration, Zoran Verusevski, who is charged with illegal eavesdropping and taping, espionage and violence against state officials, the MIA news agency reported on Friday.

Three more suspects have been indicted for the same wrongdoings.

Zaev - who in February started publishing illegally eavesdropped conversations - faces charges of violence against state officials.

The prosecution has asked that four suspects from the group already in custody should remain in jail, while Zaev has not been detained.

Earlier this week, Zaev accused Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and the head of the secret service of "unauthorized wiretapping of citizens," and announced protests that would last until the government resigns.
