Prosecution has "no evidence" against SNS MP

Stojanovic is a deputy in the national assembly from the ranks of the ruling SNS and previously served as a high-ranking Yugoslav Army officer. An interpol warrant for his arrest was recently issued in Kosovo.

In an interview with the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti, Vukcevic said that the Serbian War Crimes Prosecution was "treating" the crimes committed near Djakovica and has "certain information about this event and the possible perpetrators."

"Momir Stojanovic has not emerged as a potential perpetrator of war crimes, but I do not know what evidence the colleagues from EULEX have," Vukcevic said.

Vukcevic added that the question of why the indictments were raised at this time and not earlier "ventures into the domain of politics, not justice,"and noted that he was ready to, with appropriate approvals from the relevant authorities, check the claims against Stojanovic and others "here as well."

The Municipal Court in Djakovica recently issued arrest warrants for several Serbs from that town for alleged war crimes committed during the war in Kosovo in 1999. Among the suspects is a Stojanovic, a general who was the chief of military security in Pristina during the war.

Asked whether his office was also looking into the accusations against Chief of Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, made recently by an NGO, Vukcevic said that the prosecution was "checking all allegations that reach it," and that this was also done in 2009, "when it was found that there was no evidence to incriminate Dikovic."
