"EU enlargement fatigue is Belgrade's excuse"

The diplomat stressed it was "not correct to believe in the existence of EU's enlargement fatigue, especially when it comes to the Western Balkans countries."

According to him, there is consensus within the EU that countries from this region should join the organization "as soon as possible."

"Obviously some conditions have to be met, such as those related to European justice, but I have an impression of sorts that the Serbian government is mentioning fatigue as an excuse for the current situation in Serbia," Tanjug quoted Wilhelm as saying.

He "explained that this is a completely wrong perception of things, to use (EU's enlargement) fatigue as an excuse for what has not been done."

"When we speak about chapter 35 (in Serbia's EU membership negotiations) it is clear that the Serbian government along with the one in Pristina must implement the agreement from April 2013. There is no enlargement fatigue. I repeat that the EU has many internal problems, but that does not influence the enlargement policy," said Wilhelm.
