Prime minister meets with Italian senators

The Italian delegation comprised Senators Vannino Chiti, Giovanni Mauro and Pietro Liuzzi.

Vucic thanked the senators for the support that Italy has been offering to Serbia along the EU path, especially for the resolution that was unanimously passed in the Senate in November, calling on the EU to open one of the negotiating chapters by the end of the year.

The Serbian prime minister said that last week's visit to Rome, during which he met Italy's state leadership, and today's meeting confirm the friendship and good political and economic relations between Serbia and Italy. “Serbia does not forget who stood by it in the most difficult times,” Vucic said.

"The Serbian prime minister backed the strengthening of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, particularly the proposal tabled by Chiti for setting up a working group that would be together with representatives of the Senate of the Italian Republic tasked with exchanging experiences concerning the EU accession process," the government's press office said.

Serbia's EU accession is key to stability in the region, the press office quoted Senator Chiti as saying.
