Chile and Serbia are traditional friends and Serbia will devote a lot of its attention to fostering and rebuilding old friendships, says Ivica Dačić.

FM: Chile and Serbia "traditional friends"

Chile and Serbia, that is the former Yugoslavia, had a long tradition of friendship and the Serbian Foreign Ministry has decided to devote significant attention to fostering friendly relations and rebuilding old friendships with countries that are important on the international stage, Dačić stated.

Chile is a member of the UN Security Council and has commented very positively on Serbia's views, he stressed, adding that he had also received assurances from Munoz Valenzuela that Chile would not change its view concerning Kosovo and Serbia's territorial integrity.

Dačić pointed out he was very thankful to Chile for a gesture that could be described a symbolic, referring to the fact that Chile's national football team had rejected an offer to play a friendly match with Kosovo because Chile did not recognize Kosovo.

Our shared commitment with the Chilean ministry and minister is to organize his visit to Serbia in 2015, and for his delegation to include representatives of other ministries in the wish to sign the free trade agreement, Minister Dačić said.

He underscored that from a country whose poverty rate totaled 40 percent in the 1990s, Chile grew into one of the most developed countries of Latin America and as such, it occupies an important place on the world map.

Chile can serve as a good example and role model for Serbia on its reform path, the minister said.

Dačić stated that Chile is very interested in economic cooperation and investments in the areas of agriculture, mining and energy.

He expressed the expectation that the agreement on police and military cooperation would be signed, as well as various agreements such as the one on recognition of degrees.

Dačić noted that although Chile is not home to many Serbian citizens, the country's diaspora there is very well organized.

During the four-day Latin American tour on Thursday, Dačić conferred with Minister Heraldo Munoz Valenzuela. Before his stay in Chile, Dačić visited Argentina where he conferred with the country's high officials and businesspeople.
