Military medical team joins peacekeepers in Africa

Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić wished a safe journey to the group of 68 members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the Belgrade barracks Banjica 2. The minister underscored that Serbian soldiers will present Serbia in the world as a country committed to the ideas and goals of the UN.

You will demonstrate that Serbia is one of the countries actively working on construction and preservation of world peace and you will also show that Serbia's citizens are ready to act as an equal partner to all those who are contributing to respect of international law and peace in peacekeeping operations, all in keeping with national interests, Gašić said addressing the team.

The contingent departing for the Central African Republic includes members who previously participated in peacekeeping missions in Chad, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gašić said and asked the experienced medical staff to transfer their knowledge to their young colleagues.

In the MINUSCA operation, the Serbian delegation will comprise 46 soldiers and medical technicians, 19 logistic technicians, three members of the contingent command and two staff officers and military observers each.

During their deployment in the military hospital, they will be tasked with provision of medical services to members of the mission in the Central African Republic. The aim of the mission is to protect civilians, preserve the country's territorial integrity, facilitate the distribution of humanitarian aid, promote and protect human rights, implement the process of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of former fighters.

With the medical team in the MINUSCA mission and 34 soldiers who are supposed to join the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon in December, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Serbia will have a total of 338 members deployed in nine multinational operations by the end of the year.
