Public call for privatization of Smederevo steel mill
The Agency has invited all interested investors to submit their expressions of interest for participating in the privatization of Železara Smederevo, and set a 30-day deadline.Several companies are interested in the privatization, and U.S. Esmark Steel Group confirmed it would take part in the tender procedure, the Beta agency reported.
During his visit to London this week Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić discussed the Železara privatization with the Esmark president, James Bouchard.
The Serbian government has been the owner of the steel producer since February 2012, when it bought it for one dollar from the U.S. Steel, forced to withdraw because of losses.
The Serbian prime minister said on Oct. 30 that the local steel maker might resume full production in May or June, 2015. Vučić said the state would take over the company's EUR 260 million debt.
