According to reports, Vučić spoke in Russian when he thanked Putin for his country's support and cooperation with Serbia, and "expressed his expectation that the key issue - the contract on South Stream - will be realized after today's meeting."

"I know that you had a comprehensive conversation with your Russian colleague yesterday," Putin told Vučić, in reference to his meeting with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Monday, and added:

"Not only are we following closely the development of the situation in Serbia, but we also try to actively participate in the development of, above all, the trade and economy sphere. We have good joint projects, but even greater opportunities."

Vučić thanked Putin for the political support that Serbia was receiving when it came to Kosovo and Metohija, and "for the desire to develop best possible economic relations."

The Kremlin announced earlier that the meeting on Tuesday would focus on a number of issues that concern "bilateral relations and economic cooperation, including in energy, and broadening cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as cooperation in international affairs."
