Đoković claims 2nd Wimbledon trophy, ATP top spot

Đoković was perhaps better for most of the match, but the fourth set saw him lose his grips, letting seven-time Wimbledon champion Federer come back after a 5-2 lead by Đoković to claim the set 5-7. In the final set, the Serb was in command when most needed, breaking the tenth game for 6-4 and the match.

He was in tears receiving the trophy.

The twenty-seven-year-old Serb now has seven Grand Slam and 45 career titles, including 19 at Masters Tournaments.

Đoković won his first Wimbledon title in 2011 and is a four-time Australian Open champion (2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013) and 2011 winner of US Open.

This was the 35th meeting between Đoković and Federer, their second on grass, with the Swiss leading the head-to-head 18-17.

Earlier this year, the Serb tennis player won the Masters at Indian Wells, Miami and Rome.

In an exclusive statement for B92, Đoković said that the match on Sunday was "his best Grand Slam final ever," and added he was very happy after the triumph.

Đoković stressed that he took hard the defeat in the French Open final against Rafael Nadal, and that the Wimbledon title for that reason meant a lot as his career continues.

“I lost three finals in the last four Grand Slams and I would lie if I said that I didn't start doubting myself. That is why I am glad to have beaten one of my biggest rivals in the way that I did and on the court where he is dominant,” said Đoković, commenting on the Sunday's match with Federer, which was their 35th meeting overall and 17th victory for the Serbian.

He said that he did not let the thing that happened to him in the match against Nadal - losing focus - repeat itself.

"I continued to play with intensity, I kept my focus, and I think this was the best tennis I played in a Grand Slam final,” the world's No. 1 told B92.

Commenting on his approaching wedding and the fact that he will soon become a father, he thanked all those who respect his privacy.

“A wonderful time is ahead of us, one we will remember for all our lives,” said Đoković.
