BELGRADE Serbian Minister without Portfolio in charge of Kosovo and Metohija Aleksandar Vulin has said that "Pristina's membership in the UN is not a topic." In an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti, he stressed that "the EU is not placing this issue before Serbia." Vulin: No mention of UN chair for Pristina "Neither Chapter 35, nor the dialogue with Pristina is the place to address status issues; such matters are resolved by the UN Security Council. Serbia will not recognize Kosovo and there is nothing more to say about that. Our partners in the EU understand this and do not place that issue before us," Vulin said. When asked if the EU's negotiating framework includes a demand not to obstruct Kosovo's membership in the UN, Vulin said that such ideas emerged before the Brussels Agreement was signed, but Serbia refused them. "There is and there will be no such stance. In Chapter 35 we discussed how the agreements reached in Brussels are to be implemented and verified as such. We did not introduce any new topics, we did not talk about status issues, and above all there was no mention of Kosovo becoming an UN member. It is a topic that Pristina will probably insist on initiating, but not with us and not in front of us. Because they know the answer," stressed Vulin. Commenting on continuation of the dialogue with Pristina, Vulin noted that it is extremely important for Belgrade to resolve issues relating to property in Kosovo and Metohija, cultural and religious heritage, and the return of expelled Serbs.
