BELGRADE Milivoje Mihajlovic said on Wednesday that "some services in charge of counterintelligence protection have failed to do their job." The head of the government's press office commented after Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic's claims that he was "still being wiretapped." Government spokesman: Some services failed Wiretapping is a serious alarm for the intelligence services, as it has occurred several times in the past, Mihajlovic told RTS. This is not just about finding the culprit, because a section of the services in charge of counterintelligence protection has failed to do its job, Mihajlovic said, and noted that "investigations are ongoing." If everyone was doing their job, this problem would not even exist, Mihajlovic said, and added that "in this case it is not about regular, but unauthorized eavesdropping." "If wiretapping devices can be bought in the flea market then it's clear that anyone can eavesdrop," asserted this government official, and added that this was especially true of "mafia, organized crime groups, some interest groups, and foreign intelligence services." The law is clear when it comes to authorized wiretapping, which is done based on court orders, he specified.
