BELGRADE Catholic and Protestant Christians in Serbia, who use the Gregorian calendar, are on Tuesday marking Christmas Eve. Roman Catholic Archbishop of Belgrade Stanislav Hocevar will at 22:00 CET tonight serve mass in the Church of St. Peter (Petar). On Christmas day, this religious dignitary will lead services in Smederevo and later in Belgrade. Catholics and Protestants in Serbia mark Christmas Eve Christians believe that Jesus Christ was born on December 25 in Bethlehem, and mark the day as the beginning of the new era "and new history of humankind." December 25 in the Julian calendar corresponds to January 7 in the Gregorian calendar, which is when Serbia's majority Orthodox Christians will mark the holiday.
