SOFIA Ivica Dacic has said he expects the European Council to confirm that the first intergovernmental conference will be held by the end of January at the latest. Any other decision, according to the prime minister, "would be wrong," and would "slow down the process of normalization of the Belgrade-Pristina relations." PM wants EU to "confirm" conference date “The general impression is that Serbia has made great historic progress since the establishment of the government one year and a half ago. In this sense, we will continue with the reforms and the implementation of the Brussels agreement, but I expect that the European Council will confirm its decision that the first intergovernmental conference will be held by the end of January at the latest,” Dacic said in Sofia, Bulgaria. He made the remarks while addressing a press conference held after a meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski. Dacic thanked Bulgaria for its support to Serbia's EU pathway. “I expect such support next week as well when the main meetings will be held in Brussels regarding the date of the first intergovernmental conference between Serbia and the EU,” he said. The meeting between foreign ministers of the EU member states will be held in Brussels on December 16 and 17, while a summit of the heads of state and government will take place on December 20. Dacic said that Serbia has done a lot with a view to fulfilling all criteria, particularly in terms of two crucial ones - internal, economic and social reforms and progress in the dialogue with Pristina. Dacic started his official visit to Bulgaria on Wednesday by a meeting with Oresharski. The focus of the talks was on bilateral relations, the EU integration process, economic cooperation and relations in the region. The head-to-head meeting between the two prime ministers was followed by a plenary session between the delegations of Serbia and Bulgaria, which was attended by Serbian Transport Minister Aleksandar Antic, Serbian Ambassador to Bulgaria Vladimir Curguz, Bulgarian Minister of Transport, Bulgarian Information Technologies and Communications Danail Papazov, Bulgarian Minister of Economy and Energy Dragomir Stoynev, Bulgarian Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva and Bulgarian Ambassador to Serbia Angel Dimitrov. According to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the total trade between Serbia and Bulgaria in the first seven months of this year amounted to USD 441 million, a decrease of 20 percent compared to the same period last year. In September this year the Serbian-Bulgarian business forum was held, while last month the Bulgarian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce was set up with the aim of strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
